"You start by blowing a bit of wind into the intake funnel. Then we have super cool liquid nitrogen to cool things down. Cold air sinks, until it starts to warm back up again. And that's where we heat it up with a giant blowtorch. And then, as it accelerates, it sucks up more air volume, and eventually blows it out with acceleration." — Phineas[src] |
The Wind Amplification Device is an airflow booster built by Phineas and Ferb in order to have fun with giant kites alongside their friends.
History[]
Phineas and Ferb head out to the park to fly kites. There, they meet up with their friends, who are showcasing their own aircrafts to each other in the meantime of arrival. Impressed by Baljeet's, Buford poses a problem regarding the possibility of levitating a large kite with just regular wind, which is answered once he is pointed to a machination designed by the boys for the occasion. Following an explanation of its functionality to Isabella, the brothers have Irving jump in to power it.
With everybody prepared to take off, Phineas cues Irving to start the machine. The kites quickly move into the air, permitting the kids to play with their unconventional rides. While the gang flies, drops of water suddenly fall into the command room, obstructing the wind intake. A sizeable quantity of liquid is outputted by the device, forming a storm above the aircrafts. Forced to retreat, the group hop down their creations. The idle machine is soon hit by a giant bucket falling from above, destroying it instantly, but not before shooting a flurry of water towards the atmosphere ("Imperfect Storm").
Design[]
The Wind Amplification Device is a grey horn-shaped machine supported by three grey mast structures. Its body is linked to a liquid tank, a big orange blowtorch connected to a yellow pressure pump; and two exhaust pipes. When closed, the output channel is covered by a brown lid.
Mechanics[]
The Wind Amplification Device is a current magnifier functioning on the properties of air convection flow. Upon receiving a blow of wind, the device transfers it through an U-framed passageway, in which it is cooled by liquid nitrogen to push it downwards, and then heated by a blowtorch to accelerate it upwards, sucking up an extra volume of gas along the way to the exit funnel.
Background Information[]
- Based on Baljeet's conversation with Buford, it can be presumed that the Wind Amplication Device is mainly Phineas' creation.
- For the demonstration, Phineas blows air himself into the device, guiding his friends through the process as it occurs. Afterwards, the wind is let out, causing a passing bird to lose all of its feathers.
- According to Phineas, Irving had volunteered to maintain air puffing into the intake. In preparation, he eats mint beforehand so that his breath is fresh.
- The kites piloted by the kids are:
- Phineas: Robot
- Ferb: Pterodactyl
- Isabella: Pony
- Baljeet: Dragon
- Buford: Ship
- Some of the aircrafts have unique capacities; the robot can turn into a car, the pony can jump in clouds, and the ship can fire cannonballs.
- Most of the rides reference previous adventures, with the pterodactyl being from the prehistoric times, the pony arising from the horse ranch, the dragon originating in the Chinese parade, and the ship deriving from the pirate escapade. The robot is the single external allusion, having a shapeshifting ability akin to those of the Autobots from the Transformers franchise.
- When the storm begins, Ferb and Isabella join Phineas inside his ride, while Baljeet hangs onto Buford's own. Before jumping down, Buford gives his pirate hat to Baljeet, stating that a captain falls down with the ship. The latter takes a moment to grasp the joke of becoming stranded as the commander.
