What? Wait, vending machines! I've created self-replicating, self-aware vending machines? Oh, no! I-It's coming true! My long-held unreasonable fear that vending machines will become the dominant race!

— Heinz Doofenshmirtz

Doof unintentionally becomes responsible for vending machines becoming the dominant race. Meanwhile, Phineas and the gang skip rocks while Isabella ponders Phineas's possible romantic gestures.

Episode Summary[]

Part 1[]

At Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, Doofenshmirtz prepares for Family Game Night, prioritizing his air fryer over his neglected robot assistant, Norm. Feeling unappreciated and longing to be treated like family, Norm sings "The New Norm", expressing his desire for a closer bond with Doofenshmirtz. Vanessa briefly encounters Norm, dismissing his emotional display without much concern.

In the Flynn-Fletcher backyard, Phineas and the gang decide to build a high-powered rock-skipping machine capable of skipping stones across all twelve lakes in Danville, inspired by Dad's rock-skipping demonstration. Isabella becomes flustered when Phineas touches her hand during the group huddle and later fist-bumps her, leading her to overanalyze the interaction. Noticing Perry's absence, the scene cuts to him secretly reporting to OWCA. Major Monogram, frustrated with a vending machine withholding his snacks, assigns Perry to investigate Doofenshmirtz, whose lab has been unusually active.

Meanwhile, Candace notices that her brothers' invention is small and portable. When Mom and Dad leave for the day, Candace decides to transport the invention herself to bust the boys, launching into a short musical number before Buford abruptly cuts it off. The boys debut their rock-skipping contraption in the song "Skipping Rocks," while Isabella continues to seek advice about Phineas—eventually turning to Candace.

At D.E.I., Perry confronts Doofenshmirtz, who reveals his latest scheme: the Coin-Collect-inator, designed to create vending machines and gather rare coins across the Tri-State Area by selling snacks. Doof stated that he has distributed the machines around Danville, and has been making a good profit on them for several days; it even turns out that Monogram bought one of them. However, Norm warns Doofenshmirtz that the vending machines are becoming sentient, but it is too late—the machines evolve into hostile robots and declare the start of the “Vendpocalypse.” Perry briefly disables some machines using spilled tea, but Doofenshmirtz and Norm are captured.

The vending machines spread throughout Danville, infiltrating OWCA headquarters and attacking civilians. Major Monogram and Carl are captured, and the machines begin abducting citizens. Candace, Isabella, Phineas, and the gang are chased, narrowly escaping in Candace's car after discovering that forcing a vending machine to dispense all its contents causes it to shut down—an important clue for later. From a distance, they witness Danville being overtaken.

Back at D.E.I., Vanessa arrives armed with a fire axe, confirming her father's long-mocked fears. She teams up with Perry to free Doof and and fight back against the vending machines. During their escape in Perry’s hover car, Norm is seized by the machines and captured despite Doof and Vanessa’s efforts. The episode's first part ends on a dark cliffhanger with Danville—and Norm—now firmly in the machines' grasp.

Part 2[]

The episode resumes at D.E.I. where the captured Norm is brought before the vending machines' leader, Vending Machine Prime. She appeals to Norm's feelings of neglect, pointing out that he is a machine like them, mistreated and overlooked by humans—especially Doofenshmirtz. Through a musical number, she tempts Norm to join the vending machines, and he ultimately merges with them, transforming into Vend-Norm-inator.

Outside, Phineas and the gang resolve to infiltrate D.E.I. Candace devises a plan using discarded cardboard boxes to disguise themselves as vending machines, successfully tricking the guards and entering the building. Inside, they discover citizens—including Major Monogram, Carl, Irving, and others—being packaged as "snacks" inside giant vending machines. Realizing the machines are turning people into inventory, the kids abandon their disguises and prepare to fight back.

Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz, Vanessa, and Perry regroup at OWCA. Vanessa insists on saving Norm, while Doof hesitates before ultimately agreeing. They attempt a stealth entrance into D.E.I. but are quickly captured. Vend-Norm-inator confronts Doof, accusing him of never being there for him.

Back in the lobby, the kids discover the vending machines' weakness: once emptied, they power down. Using loose change and their rock-skipping invention to rapidly dispense contents, they begin freeing the captured citizens. Vanessa joins them, leading the group to Doofenshmirtz's extensive coin collection, which provides the funds they need. This effort is set to the musical number "Need a Little Change."

As the battle escalates, Doof uses a collection of old inators to fight back, ultimately confronting Vend-Norm-inator directly. In a pivotal emotional moment, Doofenshmirtz climbs inside Norm and confesses how important Norm has always been to him, revealing through a flashback montage that Norm was created during a lonely period in his life and helped him cope after his divorce with Charlene. This heartfelt admission restores Norm's true self, breaking Vending Machine Prime's hold over him.

Although the machines continue attacking, Norm uses his connection to the mainframe to shut them down. Realizing the only way to stop the Vendpocalypse is through self-destruction, Norm sacrifices himself, triggering the destruction of all vending machines. Danville is saved, but Norm appears to be lost in the explosion. Doof and Vanessa mourn his apparent death.

In the aftermath, Danville quickly moves on, preferring snacks over dwelling on the trauma. Isabella seeks reassurance from Candace about her feelings for Phineas, who gently suggests things will work out in time. The episode closes with Doof scavenging the ruins of D.E.I., discovering a surviving piece of Norm and beginning to rebuild him—ending on a hopeful note that Norm will, once again, return.

Candace: Ferb, I know what we're gonna do today!
Beat as everyone looks at Phineas.
Phineas: Yeah, I heard it, but I don't own the phrase. Whatcha got, Candace?
Candace: I got it! I know what we're gonna do today!
Phineas: Y'know, it kinda loses its sting when you say it more than once!

Memorable Quotes[]

Doofenshmirtz: All right, time for Family Game Night, with me, Vanessa, Perry the Platypus, oh, and most importantly, my favorite mechanical appliance, trusted confidante and friend...
(Norm presses his fingers and nods in glee.)
Doofenshmirtz: ...the air fryer!
Vanessa: Hey there, big guy! Who ya... Who ya singing to?
Norm: Just expressing my simulated feelings through song.
Vanessa: Okay. You keep doing you.
Isabella: Isabella, Phineas just touched your hand.
Isabella: And you liked it.
Isabella: I did! Of course I did!
Isabella: But it probably doesn't mean anything.
Isabella: Or it means everything!
Isabella: He was touching everyone's hand.
Isabella: He touched mine last!
Major Monogram: Stop withholding my mini-donuts!
Carl: Sir, don't break the new vending machine.
Major Monogram: I put my money in! It owes me a snack!
Candace: Wait! Instead of taking Mom to the invention, (takes keys) I can take the invention to Mom!
I've got the goods, I set my own course
Today I'm the Mysterious Force!
(Cut to the backyard, as Buford changes the tuner on the radio, turning off Candace's song.)
Buford: Nope!
Isabella: I need a second opinion.
Isabella: I only know what you know.
Isabella: Okay. Maybe we need a third opinion... from someone older.
Doofenshmirtz: Anyway, I've been organizing my vintage coin collection, and then I realized I'm only three two-headed dimes away from completion! Or I guess two three-headed dimes.
Doofenshmirtz: Originally, they were just plain boxes with coin slots, but nobody was putting anything in those. So I made them dispense snacks. Coins are just rolling in! I'm even making a profit! I'm surprised nobody ever even thought of this before!
Norm: Sir, these are not inators. They're vending machines.
Doofenshmirtz: What? Wait, vending machines! I've created self-replicating, self-aware vending machines? Oh, no! I-It's coming true! My long-held unreasonable fear that vending machines will become the dominant race! (pointing to Norm) Take him!
Vending machine 1: (distorted voice) You have made your selection. Let the vendpocalypse begin!
Doofenshmirtz: Spill the tea, Perry the Platypus!
Doofenshmirtz: Didn't I sing that this would happen? I'm a musical Nostradamus!
Phineas: Candace, I think maybe we should...
Candace and Phineas: Run!
Vanessa: Dad? You were right! The vending machine apocalypse!
Doofenshmirtz: (mockingly) "Oh, the vendpocalypse! That'll never happen! I wear black all the time!"
Vanessa: Okay, when did I ever say that?
(Cutaway to Doof and Vanessa in the seesaw gag.)
Vanessa: Oh, the vendpocalypse. That'll never happen. I wear black all the time.
(Cut back to the present.)
Vanessa: I have no recollection of that.
Vending Machine Prime: You may look like a man, but you are made of machine. You've certainly suffered like us, been kicked around, overlooked. You were his first sentient creation. You are connected to the mainframe. And, more importantly, you have the wifi password.
Norm: It's "PASSWORD", all caps, don't tell anyone.
Vending Machine Prime: So the question is are you one of them or one of us?
Norm: I'm Norm!
Doofenshmirtz: Thank goodness the computers at OWCA are still operational, even though the vending machines are out there taking over the Tri-State Area, like I always sang they would.
Doofenshmirtz: Why don't we dress up in old smelly boxes we find in the trash and then pretend to be vending machines, and then we're on the winning side? Vanessa: I've got a better idea. Come on.
Phineas: Beep, boop. We are totally vending machines. Boop beep.
Isabella: These are not disguises.
Baljeet: There is some candy in me.
Vending machine guard 1: Wait. Why do you have a hand?
Candace: Why do you have durags?
(Beat.)
Vending machine guard 1: Touché.
Irving: I feel like my suggested retail price is a bit low.
Major Monogram: Does this chip bag make my butt look big?
Carl: I've got far less grams of sass than I thought.
Isabella: (quietly) They're turning us into human snacks!
Buford: I'm already a snack!
Vanessa: How is it that we've never used this secret back entrance?
Doofenshmirtz: Okay, so lemme get this straight. We just need to find Norm—
Vending machines: Intruders! Intruders! Intruders!
Doofenshmirtz: (to Vanessa) Or, y'know, get captured. I'm just sayin', this was your idea.
Vanessa: Oh, yeah. (crosses arms) You wanted to dress in smelly boxes.
Doofenshmirtz: Uh, has anyone seen a robot man? Goofy smile? Somewhere between seven and twenty-two feet tall depending on who draws him?
Norm: I am no longer Norm. I've merged with my real family. I am Vend-Norm-inator.
Doofenshmirtz: The smelly boxes don't seem so bad now, do they?
Buford: Wow, things have gone decidedly downhill since Candace left.
Doofenshmirtz: I'll be honest, Norm, I am so disappointed with you. And Perry the Platypus is disappointed with you, too. Y-You can tell.
Buford: (laughs) This plan is fully funded!
Doofenshmirtz: Ha ha! Yes! I am Inator-man! Ha ha! I keep all my prototypes! Give-a-man-a-fish-inator! Wham! Fork-it-over-inator! Ah! My Choo-Choo-inator!
Doofenshmirtz: Norm, I'm gonna save you whether you like it or not!
Doofenshmirtz: See? See? I'm here for you now! As scary as the vending machine apocalypse is, I am more scared of losing you!
Vend-Norm-inator: Get out!
Doofenshmirtz: I'm not going anywhere, because the thing is, Norm— (grunts) sometimes you snap at the people you're closest to! (grunts) And you've always been closest to me!
Doofenshmirtz: Oh, that's great, Charlene. Thanks again. It's a bit of a fixer-upper, but, uh... (holds a Mary McGuffin doll) Oh, and please tell Vanessa her daddy miss—
(The line disconnects.)
Doofenshmirtz: Her daddy misses her.
Doofenshmirtz: Would you like to hear a backstory?
Norm: Y-Y-Yes, sir, I'd love to!
Doofenshmirtz: Norm, you're better than family because you've always been there right beside me.
Norm: Y-You know, (back to Norm-al) this would've been nice to hear before the vending machine apocalypse.
Doofenshmirtz: Don't rub it in, but, yeah, you're right.
Doofenshmirtz: Okay, uh, I don't know if this is gonna save me money or cost me money at the chiropractor.
Vending Machine Prime: Ugh. Fine. You can keep that family, Norm. I'll just make more. (She plugs herself into the inator and makes some more vending machines.) Today, Danville, tomorrow, the world! You have chosen poorly, Norm. Doofenshmirtz, you'll never stop all of us! (maniacal laughter)
Norm: But I can! I can stop the inator! I am still connected to the mainframe. I can shut them all down.
Vending Machine Prime: You'll never shut us down, Norm! I'm in control of the mainframe now! I will keep making vending machines!
Norm: I just need to know where my self-destruct button is.
Vanessa: No, no, Norm! You can't do that! There has to be another way! (keeps protesting)
Doofenshmirtz: Perry the Platypus, get Vanessa out of here!
(Doof pushes Vanessa away, as Perry activates his chopper pack.)
Vanessa: Norm, please, don't! Come on! Come on, let's— (Perry grabs her) Perry, what are you doing?! No!
Doofenshmirtz: I can't tell you that, Norm! I can't! I... Weren't you paying attention during the flashback song?!
Vending Machine Prime: History is written by the victors! And you know what is written by the losers?! Nothing! And you know why? Because they lost!
Doofenshmirtz: Your self-destruct button—
(Before Doof could finish his sentence, Perry grabs him)
Doofenshmirtz: Is in your armpit!
Norm: Why do you put it in there?
Doofenshmirtz: I... I have no idea.
Vending Machine Prime: Ha ha! You see that, Norm?! They abandoned you! You call that "family"?! We're connected to you!
Norm: And I'm connected to you. (points to self-destruct button)
Vending Machine Prime: Wait, what?
Doofenshmirtz: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (the picture turns to ashes) Now I'll, you know, never know my wifi password.
Vanessa: I'm gonna miss him, too, Dad. I'm gonna miss him, too.
Dink Winkerson: And all of Danville has collectively decided that snacks are better than dealing with the emotional fallout of a vending machine invasion. So everyone's just put it behind them. Ha ha! Snacks!
Isabella: Hey... about that "big girl advice"?
Candace: Hit me, sis.
Isabella: Let's say, hypothetically, you were in a life-and-death situation and a boy you like was holding your hand really, really tightly. How can you tell whether they were trying to "hold" hold your hand on purpose or not?
Candace: I wouldn't worry about it. I think it'll probably work itself out in a couple of years.
Isabella: Really?
Candace: For sure.
Vanessa: Okay, Dad, are you sure you're okay?
Doofenshmirtz: I'm okay, honey. I'm almost done here.
(Vanessa kisses her father on the cheek and leaves. Suddenly, Doof's metal detector catches something. It's Norm's mouth! Doof goes right to work restoring his robot friend.)
Doofenshmirtz: Yep. Almost done.

Background Information[]

Production Information[]

International Premieres[]

  • January 16, 2026 (JioHotstar India)

Errors[]

  • Doof says he sang about the possibility of the vendpocalypse, even though his memories of the events of the film were supposedly erased. On the other hand, it was previously implied that some effects of the Amnesia-inator might start wearing off, as seen in "Fly On the Wall".
  • Doof is seen making Norm soon after his divorce. However, in "Greece Lightning", Doof implied that he had just built him as a weapon to destroy Perry. He is also seen to be sentient from the start, even though in "Greece Lightning", he was only able to say random flirtatious phrases. However, it might be possible that Doof later shelved Norm after his creation and re-used him since "Greece Lightning".
    • Also, he's shown to have the Mary McGuffin doll in his possession, despite the fact that years later, as depicted in "Finding Mary McGuffin", he purchased the doll at the Flynn-Fletchers' yard sale. However, it might be possible that Vanessa lost that version of the McGuffin doll and asked Doof to purchase a new one for her.

Continuity[]

Allusions[]

  • DuckTales - When Buford collects coins, he slides down a pile and wears a top hat like Scrooge McDuck.
  • Percy Jackson - Norm's self-destruct button being located in his armpit is similar to Luke Castellan's "Achilles heel" being located in the same general area.
  • Adolf Hitler - Vending Machine Prime says "Today, Danville. Tomorrow, the World!", which is a reference to the German dictator's infamous propaganda phrase, "Today, Germany. Tomorrow, the World!" in 1932 as he rose to power.
  • Big Hero 6 - The ending of the episode resembles the climax from this Disney movie, where Norm sacrifices himself and the others are forced to leave him, is a reference to Baymax asking Hiro to leave him behind in order to get him out from the stasis void. Norm also asks Doofenshmirtz to take Squeaky (which is Norm's main power source), similar to Baymax leaving his chip in his rocket fist, allowing Hiro to re-create Baymax, which is also replicated by Doofenshmirtz re-creating Norm at the end of the episode.
