The boys build a zoetrope that goes on an adventure of its own.
Episode Summary[]
On another hot day in Danville, Dink Winkerson of Danville Today reports on the Danville Mother Mugger as well as a meteor heading toward Earth.
In the Flynn-Fletcher backyard, Phineas unveils to the gang their latest creation, a giant golden zoetrope. The gang christens the zoetrope "Tropey McTropeFace", and the Fireside Girls demonstrate how it works by being an animated girl running.
Meanwhile, Major Monogram informs Agent P that there have been things turned on their side all over the Tri-State Area, and since Perry has a hard out at noon, he should thwart Doofenshmirtz as quickly as possible. As soon as he gets to Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, Doof beholds his latest creation, the Turn-Over-inator, which he intends to use on City Hall to turnover the leadership from Roger to himself. But in the midst of his monologue, Doof accidentally activates the inator.
Ferb says that he belongs to the world.
The inator beam hits Tropey McTropeFace, he rolls out of the backyard just in time for Candace's failed busting attempt. She is indifferent about the outcome, since she has a hard out at noon. As Ferb watches Tropey roll down the street, Grammy®-award winning singer Michael Bublé sings a song about the zoetrope and his potential adventures.
Linda is exiting the grocery store with her food and umbrella letting Candace know she has to give Perry a bath, when her umbrella is purloined by the notorious Danville Mother Mugger. As she chases him, Tropey catches him and brings him to the police.
At the park, the Van Stomm family is having their family reunion, but is arguing about when to chop down a tree. Tropey arrives, and Buford suggests they take him for a spin. When they finally chop the tree, the impact of the fall sends Tropey rolling away again.
The Van Stomm family argues about cutting down the tree.
While rolling down the road, Tropey sees a Ferris wheel in the park near City Hall. He falls in love with her and attempts to give her a bouquet of flowers, but he trips on a rock and rolls on a skating ramp. On a stream near a waterfall, a riverboat has lost its paddlewheel. The captain insists on gathering everything flammable to make the boat explode so the momentum would move it away, but a passenger says that might kill everyone on board. Tropey comes to the rescue and wheels the boat to safety. In all the excitement, the captain accidentally drops the match onto the flammable pile causing an explosion and for Tropey to roll away again.
Back at Doof's lab, Perry is fighting his nemesis, while keeping an eye on his watch. A few minutes before noon, emerging from a garbage can, Perry knocks Doof into the inator, causing his lab to be tilted ninety degrees. Since Perry has to keep schedule, he flies away from Doof and into the backyard just in time for Candace to give him a bath. Candace notes this is probably the highlight of his week, and Perry chatters happily to approve this.
Meanwhile, Linda approaches the police to see they have caught the Danville Mother Mugger, who is unmasked as Dink Winkerson. As he is hauled off to jail, Winkerson says he did it because he was tired of being sent into the hot sun to report on the weather and wanted to be in the shade.
Tropey with the bikers.
Out in the desert, Tropey has now joined a biker gang called the "Sons of Wheels". They have fun together, and while the bikers get matching tattoos of Tropey, Tropey gets a tattoo of the Ferris wheel. When Tropey leaves the desert, he makes his way back toward the Ferris wheel.
Back in Doof's titled lab, he is standing atop Norm's shoulders to reach the inator button. When he reaches it, it hits the plot of land that has City Hall and the park, causing Tropey to once more roll backwards before he can reach the love of his life. As the meteor keeps hurtling toward Earth, Tropey trips over the Flynn-Fletcher Antiques building and catches the meteor in his wheel sending both of them flying toward space. While the meteor hits a planet about to be inhabited by space dinosaurs, Tropey almost freezes to death but a deus ex machina taking the form of a zoetrope with a beard and long flowing robes tells him it is not his time and sends him back to Earth.
As Doof is about to declare victory, Tropey crashes into him and destroys his building. Doof curses him as Tropey returns to the park and latches onto a lamppost to be with his girl. The gang arrives in the park for a Ferris wheel ride and show elation that Tropey made a friend. As the gang ride the Ferris wheel, with Buford using Tropey as a hamster wheel, Phineas notices three baby merry-go-rounds that somehow were never there before.

Ferb: (about Tropey McTropeFace) Now he belongs to the world. |
Phineas: Did you guys hear something? Ferb: It sounded like it might have been a large cylindrical object colliding with a huge flaming rock, sending them both careening into space. (Beat.) Or maybe just the building settling. |
What'cha doin'?[]
None.
Hey, where's Perry?[]
Phineas: Hey, where's Perry? |
Oh, there you are, Perry[]

Memorable Quotes[]
Dink Winkerson: Dink Winkerson here live for Danville Today. In the heat, in the sun, alarmingly dehydrated. But whatever. Tonight, the ongoing manhunt for the Danville Mother Mugger, a devious, masked criminal who snatches umbrellas from people's moms. Ya can't make this stuff up! And we talked to some socially awkward astronomers who apparently discovered a new meteor hurtling towards Earth, or something. |
Phineas: And now, without any further ado, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you...
Buford: Please say, "Bread Bowl Hot Tub". Phineas: ...the world's largest... Buford: Bread Bowl Hot Tub! (Ferb releases the tarp uncovering...) Phineas: ...zoetrope! (The triumphant fanfare winds down.) Buford: And if by "zoetrope", ya mean a 19th century optical toy consisting of a cylinder with pictures on the inner servers that produce the illusion of motion, I'm not impressed. |
Isabella: Wow. Animation is so easy. |
Major Monogram: Sorry for the lair entrance power outage, Agent P, but someone plugged a hairdryer into the wrong outlet. Carl: (entering with glossy hair) My bad, Agent P. |
Doofenshmirtz: Ah, Perry the Platypus, how unexpected...
(Perry rolls up his "sleeves".) Doofenshmirtz: Wait, wait, wait! Whoa, whoa, wait, what, n-no trap? No monologuing? I-It's like you're no longer interested in a fully nuanced relationship! Okay, okay, behold, my turnover-inator! And n-no, it doesn't make delicious turnovers, but it could. It could. There's an attachment. |
Linda: Hey! That's my umbrella! It's the Danville Mother Mugger! How do you even know I'm a mother? |
Linda: I don't know who I should be angrier at. The Mother Mugger, or whoever built that giant zoetrope. That's dangerous! |
Police chief: Be on the lookout for the Mother Mugger! In hindsight, we shoulda had him take off his mask for the mugshot, but we work with what we got. |
Buford: Man, these family reunions with our traditional custom of felling a tree together can get awfully tense. |
Biffany: Of course, we should start the tree chopping ritual now! Van Stomm family member: I vehemently disagree. We should cut it down in a little while! |
Buford: Hey, everybody, what say we put aside our differences long enough to enjoy this unexpected, comically large wheel? |
Biffany: Let's cut the tree down now! Van Stomm family member: Yeah! It's a little while later! |
Buford: It is the ephemeral nature of things that make them all the more beautiful.
Baljeet: A touching sentiment. Buford: Don't ya have anywhere else ta be? Baljeet: I do not. |
Boat captain: If we pile combustible substances at the back of the boat and create a massive explosion, it may propel us forward. Boat passenger: But it may explode us, too! |
Man 1: We're okay! I mean, not great, obviously, but okay! Captain: In retrospect, maybe we shouldn't have named the boat Explodey McSplodeFace. |
Doofenshmirtz: Wait, it's not even noon and you're already leaving? What... What am I supposed to do for the rest of the day? |
Candace: Okay, twelve o'clock. Let's get this over with. (Puts on her goggles.) Perry! Oh, there you are, Perry. Oh! And you're filthy! This has got to be the highlight of your week, right? Y'know, cuz platypuses don't do much. Perry: (chatters happily as Candace scrubs him down) |
Dink Winkerson: This is Dink Winkerson, being arrested! |
Farmer's Wife: You ordered ten tons of bread dough? How're we supposed to roll it out? (Tropey rolls in and rolls out the dough.) |
Biker: That zoetrope taught me how to love. |
Doofenshmirtz: Time to turn this city on its head!
Norm: On its head, sir? Doofenshmirtz: Or technically, I guess, turn it on its side. Y'know, it just doesn't sound as good. You say, "I'm gonna turn this city upside-down", people get that. But ya say something about, "I'm gonna rotate this city 90º"? That, that... that doesn't mean anything to anybody. |
Zoetrope Deity: It is not your time. |
Norm: Now I've been turned 90º. Doofenshmirtz: Y'see? That means nothing! |
Phineas: Hey, Ferb, look! Were those little baby merry-go-rounds here before? |

Errors[]
Continuity[]
- Buford once again mentions the "Bread Bowl Hot Tub" from "Summer Block Buster".
- On his journey, Tropey rolls through the water park seen in "Dry Another Day".
- Mistaking strange noises for the building settling is used as a gag again. ("Phineas and Ferb Save Summer")
- The statue of John P. Trystate that was turned on its side is the same one that was unveiled in Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe.
Allusions[]
- Boaty McBoatface - The title references the Antarctic research vessel RRS Sir David Attenborough and the 2016 online vote for its naming. "Boaty McBoatface" became the runaway favorite in the poll, and as a nod to its popularity the name was given to the autonomous submarine on board the vessel itself. As a result, "[Name]y Mc[Name]face" has become a popular joke entry in many polls requesting the public's vote on the name for a new object or structure, much in the same way "Mickey Mouse" has been a decades-long third-party "vote" in most major elections.
- Mickey Mouse - During the song, three of the spirals are positioned in a manner resembling a "Hidden Mickey".
Trivia[]
- Lawrence doesn't speak in this episode.
- So far, this episode contains the longest line of dialogue David Errigo Jr. has spoken as Ferb. Ferb's longest line is still the rousing speech he gave in "The Lizard Whisperer", which was provided by his original actor, Thomas Sangster.
- One of the few times Linda sees the boys' invention - she sees Tropey McTropeFace rolling through town but is unaware that Phineas and Ferb built it. ("Interview With a Platypus", "The Bully Code").
- Perry is shown to like bathtime.
