— The Haberdasher | ||
After Doof turns into a Mothman and eats Perry’s fedora, Perry has to visit the O.W.C.A. Haberdasher. Meanwhile, Isabella works with Buford and Baljeet to make a special big idea for Phineas and Ferb while they go out for the day.
Episode Summary[]
In this episode, Phineas and Ferb leave a holographic message for their friends, explaining they'll be spending the day with their mom. Isabella, Baljeet, and Buford are left to figure out what to do on their own. After a brief squabble, they each decide to pursue separate inventions, competing to impress Phineas and Ferb upon their return. Meanwhile, Candace considers whether she should bust them, even though her brothers aren’t involved.
Parallel to this, Agent P receives a mission from Major Monogram to investigate Doofenshmirtz, who has transformed himself into a moth-like creature using a pupa-inator in a misguided attempt to become his "best self." Realizing the transformation is gross and impractical, Doof decides instead to turn everyone into moth-people so he can feel relatively attractive.
During the battle, Doof eats Perry's fedora, damaging its security chip. Perry visits the eccentric Haberdasher to replace his hat, leading to a musical number about crime-fighting headwear. When Doof invades the hat lab in moth form, Perry uses the teleportation hat to retrieve the pupa-inator and reverts Doof back to his human self—though Doof accidentally rockets away in a hat-turned-jetpack.
Back in the backyard, Isabella, Baljeet, and Buford combine their inventions into one grand creation. Just as they prepare to unveil it to Phineas and Ferb, the pupa-inator beam hits the contraption, turning it into a giant flying moth creature that escapes before anyone else sees it. As usual, Candace and Isabella are left unsuccessfully trying to show Linda the evidence with Buford remarking how nobody bothers to take a picture of the invention before it disappears. The episode ends with Perry receiving a new fedora and the Haberdasher relocating his secret facility.

Doofenshmirtz: Thank you, Perry the Platypus. |
Bread bowl hot tub[]
Baljeet suggests this to Buford, who rejects it, since he doesn't want to do it with just Baljeet and Isabella.
Memorable Quotes[]
Baljeet: Buford, what have you done?
Buford: You're gonna hafta wait for my tell-all memoir just like everyone else. |
Baljeet: Whoo! Opportunity! We can carpe our own diem! (unrolls a blueprint) How about Radical Barbarian Battles?
Isabella: Origami mech suits? Buford: Anti-gravity water slides? Baljeet: What about your Bread Bowl Hot Tub? Buford: I don't wanna stew with just you two. |
Isabella: We can't have nothing to show for our day when Phineas gets here.
Baljeet: And Ferb. Isabella: Yes, and Ferb. |
Major Monogram: Howdy, Agent P. Doof's been experimenting with recombinant DNA. And it isn't pretty.
Carl: Whatever you're thinking it is, it's much worse. Major Monogram: Get over there ASAP. Just... maybe do it on an empty stomach. |
Baljeet: This could be a chance for me to shine as an individual.
Isabella: For us to shine together. Baljeet: Yes, for us to make me shine together. |
Isabella: You two keep yappin'! I'm gonna work on my own idea.
Buford: Fine! We all build our own thing! May the best man win! Baljeet: It is not a contest, Buford! (quietly) But I am so going to win. |
Candace: To bust or not to bust. Eh, they're not my brothers, so I'm not sure it'd even count. But maybe if Mom sees this, it'll lend a little credence to all the other things I told her about. Yes! (She suddenly is holding two pairs of binoculars.) To bust! |
Doofenshmirtz: Oh, man, I'm not a beautiful butterfly at all! I'm a big gross moth thingy! (He looks at his lab coat, which has bite marks all over it.) Well, I guess that explains the strange urge to eat clothes. Maybe I should just turn myself back into a—
(Perry nods in agreement.) Doofenshmirtz: Wai-wai-wait! Or... go with me here... I make everyone else a moth. Cuz, y'know, like in a city of men, I'm like a four at best. But in a city of mothmans, who knows? I could be like a six! |
Doofenshmirtz: Perry the Platypus. More hat. Doofmoth needs more hat. |
Phineas: Mom, let's head home. Candace wants us to see something.
Candace: EEE! Linda: If I had a nickel for every time Candace promised to show me something and nothing was there, I'd have $5.20, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened 104 times, right? |
Haberdasher: Agent P? In my shop? Is it my birthday? Trapdoors and birthdays are so hard to keep track of, don't you find? |
Haberdasher: Oh, you found the trap door! Clever! I'll take the stairs. |
Isabella: We can't show these to Phineas.
Baljeet: And Ferb. Wait, this is gonna sound crazy, but what if we combined our efforts? Buford: That's crazy! So crazy it just might work! |
Haberdasher: Don't remember designing that one. |
Isabella: Wow!
Baljeet: That is amazing! Buford: Yeah, who would've thought that three completely disparate elements would go together so seamlessly? Baljeet: (raises hand) I would have. Buford: Yeah, but ya didn't. |
Isabella: I can't wait for Phineas to see it!
Baljeet: And Ferb. Isabella: And Ferb. |
Doofenshmirtz: I guess there's no more hats to eat. Hatmaker will do. Haberdasher: Uh, you should wait for Agent P. I'm not really much of an action guy, no. |
Linda: I'm just gonna add that to my tab. Cha-ching! |
Buford: Nobody even bothered to take a picture?!? |
Doofenshmirtz: Oh, great. (sighs) Great instinct turning me back into a human, Perry the Platypus. And frankly preferable to that whole "make everyone else into mothmans" thing, (puts on the aviator cap) 'cause, ya know, "reasons". |
Haberdasher: Be seeing you, Agent P. Oooh, happy birthday! |
Doofenshmirtz: Blegh! Oh, why did I think that would taste good? |
Background Information[]
Production Information[]
- The songwriting session for the musical number "I Have a Hat For That" was posted on Dan Povenmire's YouTube channel on July 10, 2024.
International Premieres[]
- September 27, 2025 (Disney Channel Japan)[1]
Errors[]
- Moths don't eat clothes. Contrary to popular belief, it is actually caterpillars who do that.
Continuity[]
- Doof's couch reappears. ("Summer Block Buster")
- Doof's line about having a nickel, which became a viral meme since the show first ended, is done by Mom. (Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension)
Allusions[]
- The Cat in the Hat - Buford's "assistant" shirts are based on Thing 1 and Thing 2. Though they are more akin to the shirts that are found at Universal Islands of Adventure gift shops, as well as counterfeits at discount shops.
- Mothman - Doof's moth-transformed appearance is based on this American cryptid.
- Professor Layton - When Perry enters the Haberdasher's building, three head mannequins are facing him, wearing hats similar to the characters of Professor Layton, Luke Triton, and Katrielle Layton.
- Alice in Wonderland - When leaving at the end of the episode, the Haberdasher laughs like the Mad Hatter and wishes Agent P a happy birthday. Coincidentally, this episode was speculated to be an Alice in Wonderland themed related episode like "Wizard of Odd" before it was released.
- Spider-Man - Doofenshmirtz's idea of turning everyone into moths is similar to the Spider-Man villain the Lizard, formerly known as Dr. Curtis Connors. Connors had developed a regenerative serum to recover lost limbs using reptilian DNA and became the previously-named monstrous villain as a result of testing it on himself much like what ended up happening to Heinz, except in Heinz's case it was the intended effect.
- Beauty and the Beast - In "I Have a Hat For That", the Haberdasher rides along the sliding bookshelf ladder like Belle does in the film's opening musical number.
- The Prisoner - The Haberdasher's "Be Seeing You" farewell accompanied by a distinctive waving gesture is an homage to the 1967 British cult series.
- Cocoa Puffs - Soul Puffs is a reference to the popular breakfast cereal.
Trivia[]
- This is one of the few episodes where the Big Idea remains unseen ("Candace Disconnected", "Blackout!" "Sidetracked", and "Happy Birthday, Isabella").
- This is the third episode where the Big Idea in the backyard isn't done by Phineas and Ferb ("The Best Lazy Day Ever", "Not Phineas and Ferb").
- As previously briefly alluded to in "Cranius Maximus", a haberdasher is someone who makes hats.
- Fourth episode where someone is turned into an insect ("Picture This", "Fly On the Wall", "Bee Story").
- Second time Perry has a fez even though they're not in Egypt ("Phineas and Ferb and the Temple of Juatchadoon").
- Isabella makes something and wants to show Phineas (and Ferb), only for it to be gone when he goes to the backyard to see it, much like what happens to his own inventions.
- Buford actually makes a valid point. Since many inventions tend to disappear, he is baffled that nobody bothered to take a picture of it thus allowing both Isabella and Candace to show what was built in the backyard.
