“ | Yes, I asked them to put something together to spice up our booth for the block party. | ” |
— Linda Flynn-Fletcher |
Another summer vacation has started, and the boys decide to ramp up their local start-of-summer block party with supersized attractions. Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz has returned to his evil ways and Perry has to find out why.
Episode Summary[]

"It's a brand new summer and it's starting right now!"
On the last day of school at Danville Middle School, Phineas and Ferb have finished presenting to the class what they did over the summer vacation. When taking their seats, Phineas and the gang share their excitement for the next summer to begin. Once the bell rings, the gang is off and running as they express their excitement for the summer; elsewhere, Dr. Doofenshmirtz has decided to be evil again while Candace is in her room, still determined to bust her brothers to their mom as last year. After the song is over, Ferb asks the usual question regarding the location of their pet platypus.
Agent P is out in the desert fighting a giant robot scorpion when he is called into his lair. His superiors at O.W.C.A., Major Monogram and Carl inform him that his old nemesis, Doofenshmirtz, has reverted to being evil, and Perry goes off to investigate.
In the Flynn-Fletcher backyard, the gang devise several ideas to supersize the upcoming Start of Summer Block Party that evening (with Buford really interested in a Bread Bowl Hot Tub). Finally, Candace, watching them from the door, suggests they do them all. The group agrees to this idea, but they are unaware that she is scheming to hope that at least one of them does not disappear so she can finally bust her brothers, which she never does.

Linda talking to Candace about the family portrait.
Candace goes up to her mom, but she is already aware that the boys are spicing up the party, as she sets up her pie booth, with help from her husband, Lawrence. Linda feels regretful that the prior summer, she was running around and did not spend enough time with her family. She is hopeful to finish early so she and the family can take the traditional start of summer family portrait.
At Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, Perry is already trapped by his old frenemy. Doof's daughter, Vanessa, seems rather blasé about her father being evil again.
At the block party, everyone is having fun at all the ideas that were suggested by the gang. Stacy, Coltrane, Jenny take part in the giant Whack-a-Pest. Phineas and Isabella play the giant dart balloon game. Buford and Baljeet get some cotton candy from the giant cotton candy machine. The Fireside Girls ride the flying bumper cars. Irving mopes at the kissing booth, and gets no takers. Candace revels in how easy this bust could be.

Dun dun dun...
Meanwhile, Doof shows Perry his newest invention, the Vaporizer-inator, which is on a hot-air balloon shaped like a chicken. He intends to use it to vaporize all the things he finds trifling. When the balloon floats over the block party, Doof shows off an extension that could vaporize five things at once. Perry uses the inator to vaporize his traps, and he escapes, as per usual. Back in the house, Candace pulls her mom outside to get her to bust the boys. On the balloon, Perry ties up Doof, but accidentally causes him to activate the inator, which hits Linda, vaporizing her out of existence, to the horror of Candace, Phineas, and Ferb...

Memorable Quotes[]
Teacher: That's a fascinating report, Phineas. We appreciate you breaking it up into nine months of installments for us. Phineas: Well, we wanted to be thorough. Baljeet: And you finished just in time for the end of this school year! Isabella: Yeah, I can't wait for tomorrow - the official first day of summer vacation! |
Major Monogram: Good morning, Agent P. I know you've been on venomous insectoid robot duty for the last nine months, but I have good news! Well, news. We suspect that Doofenshmirtz is back to his evil ways. And by "suspect", I mean he emailed us.
Carl: He also updated his social media status to "evil again". (A screenshot of Doof's Instagram with the caption "evil again" appears on the screen.) Major Monogram: Yes, it's all very alarming, Agent P... (Pan away from the monitor, where it's seen that Perry has immediately left his lair) Carl: Boy, he's fast. |
Candace: Dumb pies ruin everything. |
Linda: It seems I spent all of last summer running around while you kids were having fun, and I missed seeing any of it. Candace: Yeah. Duh. |
Candace: This bust is gonna be as easy as...
(Pull out to show more pies around the room to help Candace finish her simile.) Candace: ...something... really easy. |
Doofenshmirtz: There he is! Welcome, Perry the Platypus! I knew my return to evil would be met with an equal opposing force of semiaquaticness.
(Zoom out to show Doof behind a table carrying three cloches, which he lifts up one by one.) Doofenshmirtz: Can I get ya anything? Lemonade? Veggie dip? A trap?! (A lever is revealed under the last cloche, which Doofensmirtz pulls. Three cages fall on Perry.) |
Doofenshmirtz: Like I always say, "If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, trap it!" |
Vanessa: Hey, Dad. What are you...
Doofenshmirtz: Up to no good! Thanks for asking, Vanessa! Vanessa: Oh, so we're evil again? Hi, Perry. (to her father) I'm meeting up with some friends. Try not to blow yourself up. Doofenshmirtz: I'm not making any promises. |
Doofenshmirtz: I know it's a chicken balloon, but it was on clearance, and it has nothing to do with the scheme. (stammers) Unless... Unless you wanna vaporize chickens for some reason, which I am not opposed to. |
Doofenshmirtz: I know, I know, today's inator's a little basic, but I'm purposely starting off slow. You can't just dive back into the deep end of evil without warming up. You'll pull a muscle, Perry the Platypus. |
Lawrence: (singsongy) This is the job my wife gave me. |
Candace: Five times the inventions is five times the bust! Nothing could possibly take away all five of these things at once!
(Zoom in to Doof's balloon floating over the party.) Doofenshmirtz: It's even got an attachment to shoot five things at once. |
Candace: Mom, look! Just turn your head ninety degrees!
Linda: (With her eyes closed, turning head) Candace, it's okay, I— (The inator's blast vaporizes Mom out of existence, much to Candace's horror.) Candace: Mom...! Phineas: Mom! Candace: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!! |
Background Information[]
- Starting this episode, the opening credits are now yellow instead of white, and the title cards have increased in size, like with Hamster & Gretel.
- The teacher character is based on Jenny Murawski, Swampy Marsh's daughter who works as a teacher and served as the namesake of Jenny Brown.[1]
Production Information[]

The crew celebrating the completion of the first episode of the upcoming Season 5.
- Dan Povenmire posted a video of himself on TikTok recording Doofenshmirtz's first lines for this episode & the revival overall on September 11, 2023.[2]
- The animatic of "Summer Is Starting Right Now" was first previewed at the Annecy Festival on June 11, 2024, as part of the "40 Years of Disney Television Animation: Past, Present, and Future" panel as well as at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. The full color song was previewed at New York Comic Con.
- This episode was completed in October 2024.
- This and "Cloudy With a Chance of Mom" are the third episode to not premiere on DisneyNOW the same day as its original airdate, following "Night of the Living Pharmacists" and "Last Day of Summer".
- From this episode onward, the show is now script-driven rather than board-driven.
International Premieres[]
- August 9, 2025 (Disney Channel Japan)[3]
Errors[]
- A shot from "Doof Dynasty" is seen on the floor during Phineas and Ferb's school presentation, despite it taking place hundreds of years in the past with counterparts of the regular characters.
- A shot of Phineas and Ferb dancing with Nosey from "The Lake Nose Monster" is also shown, despite the boys promising to keep Nosey's existence secret.
- During "Summer Is Starting Right Now":
- When Phineas sings "There's 104 days of summer vacation", the second hand of the clock on the wall is positioned 45 degrees counterclockwise from the "12" position, while in a later shot just a few seconds later, it is over 90 degrees away (approximately where it should be, relative to when the kids count down to the end of school.)
- In the first chorus, when we see a close-up of Phineas singing "Summer is starting right now!", Ferb's big eye is in front of his smaller eye.
- Partway through Doofenshmirtz's part, the curtain covering him and the Vaporizer-inator disappears, and the Vaporizer-inator suddenly changes position.
- In the final chorus, Buford's drums are purple. When Ferb asks "Hey, where's Perry?" they change to red and bluish-gray.
- During the line "I think we all know what this is regarding", Isabella's bass is facing the wrong direction.
- In "Doof 101", which takes place after the previous summer, Phineas and Ferb are seen in elementary school, but in this episode, they are attending middle school.
- Although the Vaporizer-inator works on entire objects and people, it only vaporizes the top part of Perry's cages.
- Baljeet's house is seemingly placed next to Isabella's house, while in past episodes, it takes several blocks to get to the former's house from the Flynn-Fletcher's house (as seen in "Unfair Science Fair Redux (Another Story)", to name one). However, the house may only be a lookalike to Baljeet's house.
- In the most recent family portrait, Candace is distracted by her smartphone. However, she had a flip phone at the beginning of the prior summer.
Continuity[]
- The episode begins with Phineas recounting the events of "Last Day of Summer". Additionally, stills from "Rollercoaster", "Are You My Mummy?", "S'Winter", "Out to Launch", "The Lake Nose Monster", "Phineas and Ferb Hawaiian Vacation", "Doof Dynasty", and "Father's Day" are shown, and Ferb is seen removing a photo of "Lights, Candace, Action!".
- In addition, during "Summer Is Starting Right Now", Phineas uses a video monitor to showcase the events of "Cheer Up Candace", "It's About Time!", "The Remains of the Platypus", "Candace Loses Her Head", "Lawn Gnome Beach Party of Terror", "S'Winter", and "Rollercoaster".
- The kids attending middle school serves as a callback to "Cranius Maximus" when Isabella says "I was so looking forward to junior high."
- Candace has a Bango-Ru doll on her shelf next to her pom-poms ("The Chronicles of Meap").
Allusions[]
- Summer Block Buster - The title is a play on the phrase that references a high-budget movie released during the summer months which becomes one of the biggest media events of the season. The release of Jaws in 1975 is usually considered the first of the modern summer blockbusters. The "block buster" part refers to the block party and Candace's busting obsession.
- Hamster & Gretel - During the "Summer is Starting Right Now" song, there are two street signs that say "Hamster Ave." & "Gretel Blvd.", referencing Dan Povenmire's solo series.
- High School Musical 2 - The entire singing scene of the episode where everyone leaves for summer and that school's over alludes to High School Musical 2, another Disney property that takes place in the summer.
Trivia[]
- This is the first time an inator's name has been reused, since Doofenshmirtz had previously created a Vaporizer-inator ("The Remains of the Platypus").
- This is the first time any of Phineas and Ferb's friends are shown in school. The boys themselves had been previously shown at school in a fantasy sequence ("Are You My Mummy?") and in a brief time skip ("Doof 101").
- This is the first episode where Ferb is voiced by somebody other than Thomas Sangster, as David Errigo Jr. who voiced him in the Milo Murphy's Law special "The Phineas and Ferb Effect" and Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe, once again reprises his role.
- This is the third time Ferb wonders where Perry went ("Fireside Girl Jamboree", "Lost in Danville").
- This is the first non-hour long episode not to play the theme song.
- This is the second time Candace does an evil laugh ("Meapless in Seattle").
- This is the fourth time that Linda gets hit by an inator ("A Real Boy", "Phineas and Ferb Interrupted", "Just Desserts").
- This is the second episode to end on a cliffhanger ("Where's Perry?"), not counting the hour-long episodes when split into two parts, and the first eleven-minute segment to do so.
- Outside of movies and other cameos, this marks the first appearance of both Django and Jenny since "The Inator Method", the first appearance of Coltrane since "Mandace", and the first appearance of Stacy since "Night of the Living Pharmacists".
- This marks the first appearance of the "Summer!" fly-by plane since Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension.
- Likewise, this marks the first use of the song "Gotta Get Gone" outside of the console releases (other than the DS version) of the Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension video game.
- One of the Big Ideas created by the Gang is the "Whack-A-Pest", which is the same one seen in the show's theme song.
- This is the second segment to run less than 11 minutes after "Atlantis". This was due to the length of its sister episode running 13 minutes.
- This segment runs for eight minutes and 34 seconds, making this segment the shortest one on record.
- Doofenshmirtz is not opposed to vaporizing chickens, possibly referencing his willingness to kill a chicken while on Feebla-Oot so the Chicken-Replace-inator can help them return home. (Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe)
- On Disney+, there is a "skip intro" button over the opening logo despite it lasting only five seconds.
