"Ladies and gentlemen, behold the wonder that is the Spuds-a-lot!"
Phineas[src]

The Spuds-a-lot is a potato sower built by Phineas and Ferb as a countermeasure to Danville's sudden spud shortage.

History[]

Isabella and her nana are preparing a Latke Festival for the Senior Lodge. To their surprise, Baljeet and Buford come back from their potato hunt to report on the lack of starchy food. Buford points out that he has one chip, inciting Phineas and Ferb to use its DNA to clone potatoes. Shortly afterwards, the boys finish their sower, and quickly plant a number of seeds on the ground.

The kids soon notice the strange human-like face on the growing potatoes, owing it to Buford's saliva from the sample. Concerned, Phineas instructs Baljeet and Buford to keep the elders distracted whilst the rest of them round up the gremlins. Meanwhile, a biking Candace notices the odd creatures being followed by the boys, pushing her accompanying mother to see them. At the lodge, frantic seniors lead Buford and Baljeet to do a musical number on their atypical friendship.

Downtown, Phineas and Ferb figure out a way to collect the mutant potatoes by sucking them into the hot tub compartment using two hoses. This process gets them back in the lodge, just as the song ends, with a handful of spuds remaining. Candace, who had dragged her parent via a lasso to catch up, arrives there in time to witness the craziness, but an external ray retrieves the gremlins before Linda can view them. Ultimately, the floor show saves the festival, to everyone's relief ("Lotsa Latkes").

Design[]

The Spuds-a-lot is a grey vehicle-esque machine with a bump-shaped front containing a horizontal-striped section in the middle; a sloped style black linked to a seed shooter; three light grey leg parts, three black wheels, a brown seat equipped with seatbelts in the center, a black steering control, a red starting button, a square partition for the sample, and a hot tub inside the bulkhead.

Mechanics[]

The Spuds-a-lot is a plant sower specialized in cultivating potatoes. A side compartment receives a sample as input, registering its genetic code in order to create seeds. With this step done, the device can be activated, immediately beginning the vegetable production thanks to its spuds launcher, which forms spots in the ground containing specimen ready for harvest.

Background Information[]

  • The invention's name alludes to its rapid planting capabilities, hence it "spuds a lot".
  • The genetic encoding of the potato seems to be divided into two variables, "B" and "C", taking values between 0 and 999 for a total of one million possible spud types.
  • As mentioned by Baljeet, all potatoes have "eyes", known as sprouts.
  • Buford's saliva mixing with the potato chip is a consequence of him putting it into his mouth.
  • Names for the mutant potatoes include "Buford-potato hybrids", "Buford potatoes", "spud spawn", and "potato gremlins".
  • The gremlins have a high-pitched Buford voice, provided by Bobby Gaylor.
  • Startled by the revelation of a hot tub in the Spuds-a-lot, Isabella wonders the reason for including one, to which Phineas responds by telling her to look at it from a different perspective; there is no reason not to add one.
  • While rounding up the spuds, Phineas yells "yeehaw!", an exclamation commonly associated with cowboy acts. This is a reference to the similarities between the actions of tending cattle and chasing potatoes.
  • At the end, the Spuds-a-lot is taken back in time alongside the Mongolian warriors.
