"It is called "spinning tops". Of DOOM!" — Baljeet[src] |
The Spinning Tops of Doom are giant tops built by the gang as an improvement on Baljeet's initial suggestion for a game.
History[]
Baljeet is given the chance to choose the activity for the day, which turns out to be a game of spinning tops. Upon playing it, Phineas is inspired to create his own funner version of the toy. Later, the giant tops are finished. Everyone besides Buford hops inside one, while Ferb activates their power source. Soon after, they all begin bumping into each other.
Wanting more action, Buford moves the dial of the generator into the danger zone, causing the giant toys to spin out of control, eventually forcing the rest of the gang to eject themselves out of them. As the tops fly off into the sky, Perry takes the switch off of the power source, shutting down the energy outburst. Now out, the kids return to having fun with a regular game ("Phineas and Ferb-Busters!").
Design[]
The Spinning Tops of Doom are giant black and white tops with a differently colored middle stripe for everyone. Each one has a user compartment containing a brown chair, two white control sticks, a surrounding panel, and an enclosing canopy with a cylindrical point on top.
Mechanics[]
The Spinning Tops of Doom function on a wireless generator, with which the energy level can be altered as desired. Once it is switched on, the tops can be moved freely using the two sticks, taking the event of collision to amplify the fun factor.
Background Information[]
- Baljeet is allowed to propose an activity due to the day being part of Nerd Awareness Week, as mentioned by Buford.
- The "of Doom" in the name is appended by Baljeet in an attempt to please Buford, who decides to give it a shot because of it.
- It is implied that Baljeet had a Big Idea in mind all along when suggesting a regular game, given his comment when Phineas resolves to enhance it.
- Buford sticks to his opinion that tops are lame, preferring to spectate his friends instead of partaking in the fun.
- According to Phineas, the decision to use a radiant power source is due to the impracticality of cords, which would easily get entangled.
- The generator has eleven energy levels, though nine seem to be dangerous. As observed, the fifth level blows up small apparel such as headphones and a cymbal-banging monkey toy, and supercharges bigger ones like the tops.
- Baljeet has trouble with the canopy twice; in the first time, he hurts his finger while closing it, and in the second occasion, he initially forgets to open it before ejecting himself.
- The tops chosen by each of the kids are:
- Phineas: Red
- Ferb: Yellow
- Isabella: Purple
- Baljeet: Blue
- Buford: Green (regular game only)
- In the beginning of the day, the tabletop board has 26 tiles colored after each of the five tops. At the end, it only has 12 blue, yellow, and green tiles.
- Recreations of the giant tops are used to repel Doofenshmirtz-2's invasion of the Tri-State Area (Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension).
- Four red tops piloted by Phineas, Ferb, Baljeet, and Buford appear in a sequence exemplifying Candace's angst of the mysterious force (Across the 2nd Dimension - Deleted Scenes).
- An image of the spinning tops appears on Candace's rant about her brothers' antics, wherein she describes it as upcoming nonsense (Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe).
- The Spinning Tops of Doom were an item in the carnival map of the Summer Vacation Summerizer. Combining them with Baljeet resulted in an animation of him riding them.
- A green spinning top was available to be placed in Phineas and Ferb's card in The Dad-inator.
- In the game Robot Riot!, the tops are unlocked in Area 2 to be purchased with 25 gears.
