When Buford is sick in bed, Baljeet forces him to watch an episode of Baljeet's favorite sci-fi show "Space Adventure!"
Episode Summary[]
In his bedroom, Buford lies in bed sick. Baljeet arrives with his laptop, eager to cheer Buford up by playing an episode of his favorite show, Space Adventure. Despite Buford's protests, Baljeet insists, starting an episode titled "Gauntlet of Death".
The scene zooms into the show-within-a-show, following Captain Dirk Mortenson and his crew aboard the U.S.S. Minotaur, on a mission to steal the secret plans for the Honey Badger Empire's new weapon, the Spiky Ring. His crew includes Lieutenant Zarna, Cadet Sophia Sharkboard, Nosh (an alien pilot), Lomond (a bumbling telekinetic mystic and security guard), and the robot DSL-4.
After infiltrating the enemy base disguised as janitors, the team retrieves the plans—revealing that the next target is Earth. Dirk refuses to flee quietly, performing the reckless Mortenson Victory Flyby, which alerts the Honey Badger fleet. Commander Rrrrg, the leader of the Honey Badger fleet, demands an apology from Dirk for scaring his techs or they will move forward with destroying Earth. Nosh, ever eager, fires all the torpedoes at the fleet, angering the commander more.
A chase ensues through a series of perilous nebulae—each one more absurdly dangerous than the last: The Giant Space Worm's Nebula, the Giant Razor Crystal Asteroids with Volcanoes Nebula, and the Kerlarian Nebula of 17 Suns and 14 Black Holes. Each detour adds new enemies: the Merlorians, the Scorpion Collective, and the ever-persistent Honey Badgers, all pursuing the Minotaur through space. Dirk's arrogance and Lomond's clumsy Schlufbaum's Luck only make things worse.
In a final, chaotic maneuver, Dirk orders a course through the Kerlarian Nebula, propelling the ship to lightspeed-22. They crash-land on the Moon, seemingly safe—until all their pursuers merge into a single giant spike, which hurtles toward Earth and crashes into the Pacific Ocean. Dirk finally admits the Mortenson Flyby "might not have been a good idea".
Back in Buford's room, Buford complains that the episode ended on a cliffhanger. Baljeet smugly tells him the next episode has the answers and begins to play it—just as the epilogue reveals that Buford never actually liked Space Adventure. He only pretended to so Baljeet would sit close enough for Buford to infect him with his cold.

Memorable Quotes[]
Baljeet: Hello, Buford, I hear you are under the weather and I have just the thing to cheer you up.
Buford: (sighs) Not that lame sci-fi show you obsess over. Space Adventure? Baljeet: It got me through hoof and mouth disease. And I have already downloaded my favorite episode. Buford: Hard pass! I'd rather wallow in misery. Baljeet: Too bad. You are a captive audience and cannot leave. |
(Zarna inches toward the guard brandishing several blades.)
Dirk: Zarna, Zarna! (Shakes his head) Not again. Three times since we snuck aboard is enough. Plus, I think you enjoy it a little much. (Zarna puts away her blades.) Zarna: I enjoy it just enough, thank you. Dirk: You have a problem. |
Zarna: Captain, their first target is listed here. It's... Earth! Dirk: Earth?! Again?! Of all the planets in the galaxy, of which there are many, why is it always Earth? |
Tech Officer #1: Hey, you janitors aren't supposed to be in here!
(Zarna looks back at Dirk.) Dirk: (sighs) Go ahead. (Zarna brandishes her blades again.) |
Dirk: Aw, I just thought of something really cool we could do right now!
Zarna: Not that. Dirk: Execute the Galaxy Famous Mortenson Victory Flyby! (The Minotaur flies up to the window of the command. The two guards react as if it was showing its rear end.) Dirk: (taunting) We've got your plans! Bite me, Honey Badgers! |
Buford: Wait! They got away undetected?! Why would he come back like that?! Baljeet: Because it was cool! |
Zarna: Was that really necessary? Dirk: You're not still carrying on about the Mortenson Victory Flyby, are you? You know us Earth men. (dances) We gotta celebrate life's wins! |
Dirk: See if you can use that Schlufbaum's Luck of yours and detect the Honey Badgers' fleet out there.
Lomond: I will try, sir. (struggles) Zarna: Why not use the ship's sensors? Dirk: Lt. Zarna, Schlufbaum's Luck is a power that goes back to when the universe was young. We can't turn our backs on— Zarna: Already picking up the incoming Honey Badger fleet. Dirk: Do you sense the Honey Badger fleet? Lomond: No. (An alarm blares.) Zarna: Sensors read twenty Honey Badgers ships. Lomond: I am sensing... evil. But the universe is a dangerous place, Captain, I kind of sense evil all the time. Wow! (Cut to outside the ship. The nebula opens up revealing the Honey Badger fleet.) Lomond: Sir, I'm sensing the Honey Badger fleet approaching! Dirk: Nice work, Lomond. |
Commander: Captain, your crazy maneuver scared the dickens out of our techs! I should blow your ship to bits, but I'll cancel that and the spike launch if you just apologize. Dirk: Commander Rrrrrg, you don't apologize for doing something cool. |
Sophia: Captain, couldn't we try firing all our space torpedos and take our chances escaping?
(During this, Nosh does just that.) Dirk: No, we could fire all our space torpedoes, but their shielding is too strong. It would only anger them! Nosh, did you fire all our space torpedoes at them?!?! (Beat.) Dirk: Nosh, did you? Nosh: (shrieks in confirmation) Dirk: It says here we have zero torpedoes left. Nosh: (shrieks) Dirk: No, Nosh. I don't think we forgot to bring torpedoes on the mission. |
Dirk: Then we'll have to escape using a course so dangerous the Honey Badger fleet wouldn't dare follow. Newbie Navigator, set course 23/49-23!
Nosh: (shrieks in fear) Zarna: (gasps) Sophia: But, Captain, that will take us straight through— Dirk: That's right, Newbie Navigator! (dramatic closeup) The Giant Space Worms Nebula! |
Sophia: Captain, can we use the laser cannons on it?
Dirk: The outer layer of the worm is too strong. The only things effective against them are... (yelling, at Nosh) SPACE TORPEDOES!! Nosh: (shrieks) |
Dirk: Lomond, can you use your Schlufbaum's Luck telepathy to tell the Space Worm we mean no harm?
Lomond: I will try, sir. (struggles) Making... (struggles) Contact! (struggles) (The space worm looks at the ship, then snarls at it.) Lomond: Oops! Dirk: "Whoops"? Lomond: Well, it might've heard me think that it should not eat the ship, uh, because it's already too fat... |
Dirk: We're gonna have to escape using a course so dangerous, the Honey Badger fleet and space worms wouldn't dare follow! Newbie Navigator, set course 23/42-27.
Nosh: (shrieks in fear) Zarna: (gasps) Sophia: But, Captain, that will take us straight through— Dirk: That's right, Newbie Navigator! (dramatic closeup) The Giant Razor Crystal Asteroids with Volcanoes Nebula! |
Sophia: Look, Captain!
Lomond: It's some kind of hidden city! Dirk: My word! It's the Merlorian Ambush! Nosh: (shrieks and pushes buttons on his control panel, setting off the ship's lasers destroying the buildings) Dirk: Nosh, no, no, no! Stop firing! Stop! "Ambush" is the Merlorian word for "hidden city"! The Merlorians are mostly harmless! Zarna: Captain, I'm reading 50 Merlorian warships powering up engines. Dirk: "Mostly". |
Nosh: (shrieks in sorrow) Dirk: For five more minutes. Don't push your luck or it'll be ten! |
Dirk: I sure hope the Scorpion Collective doesn't learn of this.
Sophia: Why not, Captain? Dirk: They hate the Merlorians and vow to be the ones to destroy them. If they even heard that we shot at them, it would be— Zarna: Picking up the entire Scorpion Collective fleet heading straight at us! Dirk: How could they even— Sophia: (giving her phone to Dirk) Better look at this, Captain. Dirk: (reading a meme) "Feeling sad on a timeout for firing on the Merlorian hidden city"!!!! Nosh!!! |
Dirk: Okay, we're gonna plot a course so doubly insane dangerous that none of them would dare follow us! Newbie Navigator, new course 47/54.09!
(The crew gasps again.) Sophia: Uh, Captain, I'm not really familiar with that course. Dirk: That's right, Newbie Navigator. (dramatic closeup) The Carlarian Nebula of 17 Suns and 14 Black Holes! |
Dirk: This is going to be a super-duper crazy maneuver. Raise the Ultimate Control Stick! (A joystick rises from the ground and lights up.) Sophia: (aside, to Nosh) You can tell it's a really good one because it has a light inside. |
Dirk: (pushes button on his chair) This is Captain Dirk Mortenson calling Lunar Landing Control. Request to land.
Lunar Landing Control: (on speaker) Lemme guess: coming in hot? Dirk: Coming in hot! (Cut to outside the ship, which is smoking. Cut to the moon as a landing pad appears. The Minotaur crashes onto the pad and screeches to a halt, practically destroying it. Cut to inside the destroyed bridge, in shambles. Dirk does a victory dance.) Dirk: Another successful mission! |
Dirk: Okay, maybe the Mortenson Victory Flyby wasn't a good idea. |
Buford: Wait a minute! What happened to that spiky thing?! What happened to the Earth?!
Baljeet: All will be answered in the next episode. (He closes the laptop and heads for the door.) Buford: Okay, okay! You're strong and cocky and dominatin' like Captain Dirk. Just play the next one. Please? Baljeet: As you wish! |
Caption: In truth, Buford never really liked Space Adventure. He only said he did to get Baljeet to lower his guard and sit within reach so he could make him sick. |
Background Information[]
Production Information[]
- Bob Bowen created the animatic for the Space Adventure episode while working on Candace Against the Universe for fun, since Space Adventure played a prominent role in the film.[1]
International Premieres[]
- October 25, 2025 (JioHotstar India)
Errors[]
Continuity[]
- Baljeet’s interest in Space Adventure is the focal point of the episode. His enthusiasm about the series has been mentioned in other episodes such as in "Nerds of a Feather".
Allusions[]
- Star Trek: The Original Series - The episode takes a lot of elements from the show, with Capt. Mortensen having similarities to Kirk and Lt. Zarna being similar to Lt. Uhura.
- Star Wars - Lomond studies a system similar to that of the Force; he has a Force spirit as his master, and Commander Rrrrg has a similar outfit to Darth Vader. Also, the Spiky Ring is a reference to the Death Star, and the crew retrieving the plans is a nod to the Rebels stealing the Death Star plans in A New Hope.
- Donkey Kong - One of the computer displays on the starship shows a graph that looks reminiscent of the first level of this 1981 Nintendo arcade game.
- The Princess Bride - When Buford asks Baljeet to play the next episode, Baljeet replies with "As you wish", which was what Peter Falk said to Fred Savage at the end of the film in response to Savage asking Falk to come back and read more, in reference to Wesley's responses to Buttercup. The episode itself also references how the movie is laid out, with Buford being sick in bed (similar to Savage) and Baljeet showing him the episode, much like how Falk reads the book to Savage.
- The Fairly OddParents! - This episode has a similar structure to the episode "Crash Nebula" where characters watch an in-universe sci-fi show.
Trivia[]
- This is the first episode since Mommy Can You Hear Me? to not have a song other than a jingle. This makes it the fifth episode not to have a major song in it (“Rollercoaster”, “Lights, Candace, Action!”, “The Lizard Whisperer”, “Mommy Can You Hear Me?”).
- This is the fifth time a character is sick ("Put That Putter Away", "Brain Drain", "My Fair Goalie", "Excaliferb").
- This is the second time Buford is in an ill state ("Brain Drain").
- This is the very first episode in the entire series where Phineas, Ferb and Perry or any of their lookalikes and counterparts (including their 2nd dimension counterparts) do not appear in any way, nor are even mentioned (save for the intro).
- This is also the first episode since "O.W.C.A. Files", as well as the first episode of the revival in general, to be storyboard-driven.
- Sixth episode that Candace doesn’t appear in (“Bully Bromance Breakup”, “Road to Danville”, “Bee Story”, “Doof 101” and “Lord of the Firesides”).
- This is the fourth episode where Heinz Doofenshmirtz is absent after “Isabella and the Temple of Sap”, “Ferb TV” (not counting the credits) and “The Ballad of Bubba Doof” (picture cameo only).
- This is the second episode not to have any running gags appear after "Agent T (for Teen)".
- This is the fourth episode to have no subplot ("Phineas and Ferb Get Busted!", "Attack of the Candace Suit", "Book Flub")
- The eleventh episode where Francis Monogram is absent after "Isabella and the Temple of Sap", "Canderemy", "Phineas and Ferb Interrupted", "Monster from the Id", "What A Croc!" (except his voice was heard in a flashback), "Ferb TV", "Road to Danville", "Bee Story", "Terrifying Tri-State Trilogy of Terror" and "Book Flub".
- Two of the Try Guys have cameos in this episode.
- Their audition to get parts in this episode was posted on YouTube two weeks after the episode aired.
- Diedrich Bader voicing Captain Dirk is ironic, as one of the characters he voices, Albert, dislikes Space Adventure and is more of a Stumbleberry Finkbat fan.
