"You're just in time to help us build a zip-line tennis game across town for the ultimate game of Sky Tennis!" — Phineas[src] |
Sky Tennis is a sport invented by Phineas and Ferb by combining tennis with zip-lines.
History[]
Isabella comes over to the backyard as the boys are preparing to set up a zip-line game of tennis. Having her join them, Phineas declares that they can play in doubles, with Buford serving as the judge. Some time later, the kids are finishing the necessary structures, when they are suddenly hit by a ray, hindering their progress. Perceiving their streak of bad luck, the group decides to incorporate fail-safe systems into their game so that they can still have fun.
Once they are ready to go, Phineas kicks off the match. At the same time, two announcers begin to provide commentary from the roof of a building. The first move has Phineas launching the ball at Baljeet's direction, where the line snaps, forcing Isabella to do an impromptu save. From there, the game continues without a hitch, confirming the accuracy of the kids' misfortune predictions.
Near the end of the game, the commentator duo is caught in their unauthorized business, abruptly concluding their narration session. Shortly thereafter, the kids finish the match successfully, and come down to see Candace, who has been having good luck in contrast to their adversity. In euphoria, she believes nothing can go wrong for her, only for everyone's fortune to be reverted at that moment, causing the boys' creation to disappear as usual ("Just Our Luck").
Design[]
Sky Tennis is a zip-line game of tennis with a center point located at a brown wooden platform in the backyard. Each player is equipped with a helmet, a strap connected to the line, and a white racket.
Mechanics[]
Sky Tennis follows the basic rule of tennis of keeping the ball in motion for as long as possible. To achieve this, players have to move alongside the line whilst paying attention to the object's trajectory in order to intercept it. As a path is crossed, adverse situations are likely to happen; several fail-safes have been placed to prevent accidents.
Background Information[]
- Sky Tennis' concept is much alike Jetpack Volleyball, a mashup of a ground sport and aerial elements.
- According to Ferb and announcer Markus, "Skennis" is a common alternate name for the sport.
- Posed with a chance to be the judge, Buford wonders if he can wear a powdered wig, referring to the traditional court dress attire.
- Baljeet compares the game's bad luck algorithms to the fail-safe systems of space capsules and airplanes.
- The bad luck circumstances that happen with the gang are:
- The top of Phineas' hammer falls off.
- The substitute hammer falls off into Ferb's shoe.
- Baljeet's line snaps.
- Ferb's racket becomes unstrung.
- One of the wires in Isabella's path breaks.
- The safety precautions installed in the field are airbags, automatic racket fixers, and movable straps, among others.
- When the luck levels are reverted to normal, the Sky Tennis structure is swallowed by the Earth, a worst-case scenario uttered by Candace moments before it happens.
