"Best sick day ever, huh? Ferb, I know what we're gonna... (coughs) All right, Ferb, implement our Sick Day Video Game Backup System." — Phineas[src] |
The Sick Day Video Game Backup System is a network software implemented by Phineas and Ferb so that they can have the best sick day ever alongside their friends.
History[]
Phineas and Ferb are stuck in bed due to an illness. Wanting to have a fun sick day, the boys activate their backup system for some entertainment. Isabella, Baljeet, and Buford join them in a call, as they are all resting as well. Since they can't decide the match order, the kids let the computer randomize it for them. The first fight has Buford going up against Isabella, who uses her sash for a one-hit knockout.
Next, Baljeet and Ferb are selected to battle. The former gets an easy win, but not without suspecting the latter of purposefully yielding the game. The only one left, Phineas ends up having a mirror bout with himself, in which he knocks himself out. Later, thanks to an accidental surge, the network connects to the scrapyard, giving the kids a feed of Perry.
Upon finding out that they can each control a part of the platypus, everyone pieces together that the strange doctor must be the boss. Cooperating, they manage to kick the pharmacist away, and throw Perry's hat in the air, finishing the game. At the end of the day, everybody is cured of their fevers, while Buford becomes unwell ("Brain Drain").
Design[]
The Sick Day Video Game Backup System is a software consisting of a blue video call interface with each person displayed as a quadrilateral pop-up; and a game with 2D graphics containing three backgrounds themed around Shinto shrines, regular temples, and forests, each of them doning a primary color as a palette basis.
Mechanics[]
The Sick Day Video Game Backup System doubles as a telecommunications application and a video game console. The former function is based on videotelephony, using the nearby wiring to establish a local network. The latter is able to run a fighting game supported by an external controller, with which the players can perform a wide array of moves, ranging from punches and kicks to smack attacks.
Background Information[]
- The system is installed in a similar manner to a projection screen, differing only due to its contractibility aspect.
- While everyone is sick in bed, Buford owes his idling to laziness.
- The computer CPU has a randomizer add-on for the game. Taking into account that it permits mirror matches, the amount of possible pairings for five players is fifteen.
- The controllers held by the gang are similar to those of the Dreamcast.
- The overall style of the fighting game is reminiscent to that of the earlier Mortal Kombat titles.
- An announcer is present in the game, narrating the participants and their moves. Based on the additional voices listed on the credits, it is likely that it was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
- Isabella's finishing move is called "Patch sash smack attack", an alliterative reference to the Super Smash Bros. series' smash attacks.
- Learning about his opponent, Baljeet sarcastically comments on Ferb's skills as a player, which had earned a place on international rankings.
- Ferb lets Baljeet win by setting up a chicken toy to repeatedly hit one of the joysticks on his controller.
- Prior to the signal being interrupted, Phineas had been fighting Buford.
- The parts of Perry that each one controls are as follows:
- Phineas: Left arm
- Ferb: Right leg
- Isabella: Left leg
- Buford: Right arm
- Baljeet: Back-and-forth
- During the final battle, Buford gets Perry to eat flies to test if they are power-ups.
Appearances[]
- "Brain Drain" (First appearance)
