"So this Rock Climbing Wall will be big! And, best of all, it'll be built of all-natural, and 100% organic, free-range yard trimmings!" — Phineas[src] |
The Rock Climbing Wall is a wall constructed by Phineas and Ferb for an environment-friendly climbing excursion alongside their friends.
History[]
Phineas and Ferb present their newest schematic to Baljeet, who brings up the possibility of consuming the project's base material. Hearing that, Buford becomes excited to help them, although the boys do not promise to incorporate an edibility factor. Meanwhile, Candace finds out from her parents that they will be birdwatching in the backyard by the afternoon, prompting her to ask her siblings about the duration of the plan in hopes of them continuing there during the exotic bird's stay.
A disheartened Isabella arrives to inform the kids of her scout duties for the day, which prevent her from joining the fun. Before the brothers can change their plans in favor of the girl, Candace steps in to take her place, assuring the gang that she can undertake the audiobook recording within a few hours, while they enjoy the activity. With the equipment properly set, the group begins the radical climbing venture, performing diverse tricks in the face of danger.
At the top, the kids briefly appreciate outer space, subsequently heading down to avoid a loss of oxygen. Back in the ground level, they are greeted by Candace, who reports on the taxing task's success, much to Isabella's delight. The teenager is unable to shout for Linda due to a hoarse voice, resorting instead to a phone call, through which she learns that dessert is oddly being served. In the meantime, a swarm of rare birds demolishes the invention for nesting materials, leaving a single specimen to sit on Candace's head ("Just Desserts").
Design[]
The Rock Climbing Wall is an artificial wall composed entirely of organic materials derived from free-range yard trimmings, more specifically pressed twigs for the rocks and lawn clippings for the general structure, giving its overall green hue. Taking the shape of Ferb's head, the construction extends into the upper troposphere, wherein oxygen starts to deplete.
Activities[]
The Rock Climbing Wall is a physical activity requiring specific equipment for its realization, namely climbing helmets, dark orange ropes, and black or white connecting harnesses. Aside from the gang, four debutantes partake in the pastime at one point. Sights seen from a bird's-eye view include the city of Escanaba, and Montreal.
Background Information[]
- On the Rock Climbing Wall's blueprint, its foundation is described as a fusion of a regular brick wall and organic material, with its body shown as a cubic part, and the rocks represented by an hexagonal design.
- Bearing Buford's behavior in mind, Baljeet retracts his query on the wall's edibility, declaring his desire of not requiring its consumption.
- According to Linda, the bent-bill knot-hatch is predicted to land in the Flynn-Fletcher backyard at 4 pm.
- Upon readying his harness, Baljeet comments on it being the worst wedgie he has ever had, excluding Buford's own.
- During the climbing, the kids circle around the wall by hanging the ropes in mid-air, and strike different acrobatic poses near the top.
- The participation of debutantes in the activity is an allusion to the concept of social climbing, associated with them to some extent.
- While lightheaded, Buford states that he can view his thoughts spread out around them, soon realizing that he is in space. Knowing his position, he screams and says "I heard that", a nod to the famous tagline of the film Alien, "in space, no one can hear you scream".
- Considering that oxygen levels are lower at the top of the wall, it can be estimated that its height is around those of the tallest mountains, which pass the altitude death zone for humans.
- Phineas offers to get his mother in place of Candace, who insists for him to stay since the invention is likely to disappear if he leaves.
- In the end, Linda gets to see the bird thanks to her daughter's efforts to grab her out of the dessert gathering.
