"We need the ultimate, best-ever egg hatcher. Ferb, I know what else we're gonna do today." — Phineas[src] |
The Platy-posterior is an egg hatcher machine built by Phineas and Ferb to help hatch an egg that they think belongs to Perry.
History[]
Phineas and Ferb climb down the tree after attempting to heat up the sun, knocking off an egg in their path. Approaching Perry, Ferb picks up the egg below the platypus' tail, which causes the boys to mistakenly assume their pet had breeded. Analyzing the ovum, they decide to build a hatcher machine to maintain it in proper conditions. Meanwhile, Candace is watching a nature program on a species of sea turtles, through which she learns about the importance of maternal care in animals' lives.
The brothers, now with a device, get close to the egg to keep it warm and relaxed. Noticing the gadgets, Candace rushes to care for the ovum like a maternal figure. Phineas and Ferb explain their idea at their sister's request, bewildering her into proving that natural methods are superior by dressing herself as a platypus. Determined, she has her siblings dismantle their creation in favor of a nursery environment ("Perry Lays an Egg").
Design[]
The Platy-posterior is the lower half of a platypus robot consisting of a teal half-oval rear end, orange tail, dark grey legs, light grey ankles, and orange feet. There are two white seats atop the bottom, which is equipped with multiple small compartments.
Mechanics[]
The Platy-posterior is designed with a comfortable surroundings in mind, taking into account an egg's needs for hatching. Its legs and tail can be freely moved, allowing for a change in position depending on the ovum's demand. Among its tools, there is a heater for temperature control, and a speaker that plays a looping lullaby.
Background Information[]
- The Platy-posterior's name is a portmanteau of "platypus" and "posterior", referring to it being a rear end.
- Despite Phineas, Ferb, and Candace knowing that Perry is male, they believe that he in fact had laid an egg. It is likely that they are caught in the spur of the moment, as they all have sudden reactions to discovering the egg.
- According to Phineas, their original plan was to construct a full Plat-a-Droid, but they had to cut down the project's scale due to time constraints. Based on his dialogue, they start the construction after the early morning and before lunch, suggesting that they would have done their base idea if they had begun earlier as usual.
- The boys' main reason to look after the egg is because Perry had left it unattended, as stated by Phineas.
- While beginning to care for the egg, Ferb puts a blanket on top of it to warm it up. To that, Phineas comes up with the concept for an egg hatcher device, commenting that "this calls for desperate measures". This is a reference to the proverb concerning adverse circumstances.
- The three main factors considered for the Platy-posterior are visual cues, adequate heat transfer, and responses to familiar sound. These explain the machine's appearance and functions, respectively.
- To dismantle the machine, Phineas uses a controller to compact it into a small disc, which Ferb puts in his pocket.
- During the montage comparing artificial and natural methods, a scene featuring the Platy-posterior dancing while the boys fix it is present.
- The Platy-posterior shows up in Candace's faint hallucination prior to waking up at the land of Odd ("Wizard of Odd").
- The Platy-posterior is seen in the montage of clips thought of by Phineas in his answer to Jeremy ("Phineas' Birthday Clip-O-Rama!").
- A recreation of the Platy-posterior is mounted by Buford, who uses it to repel Doofenshmirtz-2's invasion of the Tri-State Area (Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension).
- In the game Robot Riot!, the Platy-posterior is a special weapon in Area 4, where it is controlled by Buford-2 instead of his prime dimension counterpart.
