It's me against the universe!

— Candace Flynn

Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe[2] (originally titled The Phineas and Ferb Movie,[3] sometimes promoted as The Phineas and Ferb Movie: Candace Against...[4]) is the title of an upcoming animated film adaptation of Phineas and Ferb that will premiere on Disney+ on August 28, 2020.[1]

This is the second feature-length film of the Phineas and Ferb series after the 2011 film Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension.

The movie centers on Phineas and Ferb as they set out across the galaxy to rescue Candace, who has been abducted by aliens and has found utopia in a far-off planet, free of pesky little brothers.[2]

At the 2019 D23 Expo, Marsh and Povenmire revealed the film will include "nine or ten" songs, which is about the same number of songs featured in the episode "Rollercoaster: The Musical!" and Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension.[5]

Songs were co-written by Karey Kirkpatrick (Povenmire's college mate and writer of Something Rotten!) and Kate Micucci (half of the duo Garfunkel and Oates and voice of Sara Murphy on Milo Murphy's Law).[6] Emanuel Kiriakou also wrote a song for the movie.[7]

The soundtrack album will be released on August 28, 2020, alongside the movie.[8]

On July 8, 2020, Povenmire revealed that the film will include 11 songs, as well as one repurposed from Milo Murphy's Law.[9] "Chop Away at my Heart" was later confirmed to be the repurposed song.[10]

On July 24, 2020, the first single from the film, "Such a Beautiful Day", sung by Candace, and written by Povenmire and Kirkpatrick, was released. A day later, the video of the song was shown during the Comic-Con panel.

Memorable Quotes

Linda: Candace, every day you call and tell me Phineas and Ferb have built some big, unbelievable thing and every day I come home to find nothing there! Doesn't it exhaust you? It exhausts me.

Phineas: Candace! Where are you going?! (to Ferb) Where is she going?

(Ferb just takes a photo with his phone.)
Norm: Hello, and welcome, aliens!

The Gang: (scream)
Baljeet: Giant robot! Quick! Give him Buford!

Doofenshmirtz: Oh, that's just Norm. He's... he's usually harmless.
Doofenshmirtz: galactic travel-inator!

Isabella: You mean, like, a spaceship.

Doofenshmirtz: But it's an inator. There's a difference. It's branding. Leave me alone.
Baljeet: We have to pass through an ion barrier.

Doofenshmirtz: Yeah, so?
Baljeet: So it could fry all of the electronics on the ship, stranding us in space!

Doofenshmirtz: Okay, that was something I did not know.

Production Information

  • The film is being produced by Disney Television Animation[11] with Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh serving as executive producers.[12]
  • All of the original cast will return to reprise their roles, with the exception of Thomas Sangster as Ferb due to his scheduling conflicts. Instead, David Errigo Jr. will reprise his role from the Milo Murphy's Law special, "The Phineas and Ferb Effect", making this the second time he would voice him.[12]
  • Jim Bernstein, one of the writers for the movie, revealed that The Phineas and Ferb Movie is a different production from the shelved theatrical Phineas and Ferb film.[13]
  • The live horns for the film were recorded on November 6, 2019, making this the second Phineas project to involve live musicians after Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars.[14]
  • Povenmire tweeted about the movie being finished off at home due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.[15]
  • "Weird Al" Yankovic's official website initially listed this movie as one of his upcoming guest star roles,[16] but during a live stream interview, Povenmire stated that Yankovic's role, which was revealed to be his reprisal of Milo Murphy, was cut for timing and pacing reasons.[17] However, Povenmire later revealed that Yankovic will indeed be making an appearance in the movie.[18]
  • Buford brings a canoe into space and there is a bit about him not fitting the canoe into the spaceship. The executive producers watched the film and decided they wanted Buford to be carrying the canoe the entire movie, so the director agreed to redo all the scenes with Buford so he is carrying the canoe the entire time. The EP's teased that there is a pay-off scene in the end.[19]
  • Bob Bowen came up with a solution to a creative solution to a problem the executive producers had. His solution is one of the most impressive things story-telling wise that the EP’s had ever seen. They fought against it initially as their knee-jerk reaction was “no!” but went home and drew it, made it as an animatic, and showed it to the EP's. The moment was so funny they decided to keep it.[19]
  • As they did with Across the Second Dimension, Povenmire and Marsh co-wrote a song for the film's end credits sequence, albeit this time it was done over FaceTime.[20]

  • In "Such a Beautiful Day":
    • Candace mentions the "pyramid-related sports", but she never witnessed that Big Idea.
    • In the recollection of "Rollercoaster" all the other boys are missing and Phineas, Ferb and Isabella are not using safety bars.
    • In the recollection of "Tree to Get Ready" Candace is looking up at her tree house robot, but in that episode, she enters the tree house when it is normal, and Stacy presses the "THF" button to make it transform.
    • Candace mentions the events of "Tree to Get Ready", although she didn't try to bust her brothers in that episode.
    • One of the memories was from "Buford Confidential", but during that episode, Candace was at home the entire time and never saw it.
    • In the memory from "Traffic Cam Caper" Candace incorrectly mentions that Phineas and Ferb built an escalator to the moon when it was actually an elevator. Although, it was one of the three plans they had in "Ready for the Bettys" before they chose to be secret agents.
  • When Linda begins her dialogue in the trailer, her nose has a black outline.
