"It's not a giant insect robot thingy, it's part of the light show extravaganza for the block party's big finale." — Phineas[src] |
The Pyrotechnic Holographic Light and Audio Simulator and Electromagnetic Radioscope, better known as the P.H.L.A.S.E.R., is a light show device built by Phineas and Ferb for the grand finale of a block party.
History[]
Linda is setting up a block party for the neighborhood, when she receives news of the fireworks area being flooded. Perceiving their mother's overwhelmed state, Phineas and Ferb offer to help her with a laser light show, for which she gives them the necessary budget. While they begin construction, Stacy points them out to Candace in an attempt to liven up the mood. The latter runs off to tell her parent, but not before hearing her siblings' explanation.
Candace's eagerness turns into a gloomy mood as she learns of her mother's request for the boys. In the backyard, the brothers present their grand finale device to their friends, clarifying that it is cooler than the traditional fireworks. Afterwards, the kids go out in search of towels to polish the lenses, all the while Stacy tries to cheer up a distraught Candace. Later, the waxing operation is complete in time for the event to begin, cueing the gang to fire the laser.
The light emitted by the machine quickly hits the partygoers, grabbing the attention of some cats in the process. An illuminated dance floor is the stage for a heated robot dance battle, ending with a head flying away into the glow device. Ahead of schedule, the grand finale begins, bathing everyone in neon rays. Dazzled, Linda moves to thank her children for the spectacle, only to find a paper mess in the backyard, deciding then to bust them for that, to Candace's bewilderment ("Love at First Byte").
Design[]
The P.H.L.A.S.E.R. is a grey radiation device composed of two spherical light emitters with several blue lenses, two dark grey cylindrical structures connecting to a central spherical part, six light grey legs, and six black wheel pieces. Colors released by it are yellow, green, and purple.
Mechanics[]
The P.H.L.A.S.E.R. is a light show machine based on electromagnetism and the properties of light. Once it is activated, a flux of rays is projected into the sky, reflecting in a cloud's surface for a wide receiving area. Due to its nature, the radiation can phase through the skin, forming different effects. In the main show, safety glasses are required for viewing, since the discharge is much bigger wherein.
Background Information[]
- The invention's name is a combination of its many functionalities; "pyrotechnic" refers to its equivalence to fireworks, "holographic" notes its phasing property, "light and audio simulator" is an extension of the latter's effects, "electromagnetic" alludes to its principal physical attributes, and "radioscope" is a description of the device's type.
- The acronym "P.H.L.A.S.E.R." is likely a portmanteau of "Phineas Laser".
- Linda's idea had been to have the boys handle the procedures of finding a company for the light show. Their creativity instigates them to do one themselves, improving on a conventional grand finale.
- Candace and Stacy initially believe that the boys' creation is a giant insect robot because of its spider-like shape.
- Upon finding out about Linda's awareness of the kids' project, Candace deems it unbustable. This would be the case if they did not undertake it themselves, which she had no way of knowing. Witnessing the odd situation, Stacy proclaims it a twist on the usual, rightfully so.
- One of the benefits of the P.H.L.A.S.E.R. in comparison to fireworks is its hightened safety, as there is no risk of losing a body part.
- Finishing the device's polish, Buford states that blood has rushed into his head, a consequence of staying upside down for too long.
- The act of cats chasing the light rays is a nod to the common activity of having a feline attracted to a laser pointer.
- As it turns out, the towels used by the kids are Linda's good guest ones; this is why she decides to bust them, in addition to the mess. In spite of that, she only has the boys clean them up as punishment.
