"Nice work kids! You didn't just get back our heroes' powers. You showed true courage fighting alongside them!" — Nick Fury[src] |
Nicholas Joseph "Nick" Fury is the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., an espionage agency. He aids Perry in his mission to supervise the de-powered heroes.
Biography[]
Background[]
Nick Fury is an adventurous boy who frequently performs stunts with a friend. This catches the attention of a lieutenant, who enlists them for a special mission. Both later join the Army, where Fury undergoes training. During the attack on Pearl Harbor, his friend is killed, causing Fury to swear vengeance against the Axis. After World War II, he begins working for the CIA as an agent. There, he is allied to various heroes, eventually leading him to become the director of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agency.
"Mission Marvel"[]
At the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, Fury informs Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and Spider-Man about the origin of the beam they were zapped by earlier, which drained their powers. Revealing the location to be Danville, he shows images of the ray passing by a station satellite. Spider-Man wonders if it pertains to S.H.I.E.L.D., but Fury presents the actual owners, Phineas and Ferb.
At the O.W.C.A. headquarters, Major Monogram introduces Fury to Perry, explaining that, due to the gravity of the situation, the director will be the one commanding the agent. Fury asks if the agent is already there, and Monogram clarifies that the platypus is the spy. In disbelief, the director wonders if Perry has powers or if he is a robot. Noticing the major's eyepatch, Fury points it out, prompting Carl to make fun of his boss. Ignoring them, the director tells Perry about the current circumstances, instructing the agent to monitor the heroes. He then turns to Monogram, but is confused upon seeing the major with two eyepatches.
While Perry is flying over the Tri-State Area, Fury notifies him of new intel related to the villains' whereabouts, confirming that they are in an oddly-shaped building. Now sporting a beard, Monogram adds to the director's orders, to Fury's annoyance. Following the villains' detainment, Fury thanks the kids for helping the heroes and fighting alongside them, with a salute as a sign of gratitude. As the heroes wave goodbye to the gang, they and Fury leave on the Quinjet.
Physical appearance[]
Nick Fury is dark-skinned and has a black beard and brown eyes. He wears a dark grey S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform with the organization's symbol in the right breast, a gun strapped in the left breast, a black armband in his right arm, black wristbands, a black belt and a light grey belt with grey frames, a black legband in his right leg, and black boots; and a black eye patch in the left eye.
Personality[]
He is serious and honorable. He does not tolerate nonsense in missions, being annoyed by Monogram's attempts to copy him. The leader of S.H.I.E.L.D., he demonstrates respect towards the members of the organization and people who aid it, declaring himself indebted to the kids.
Relationships[]
The Avengers[]
Fury is allied to the Avengers, using his agency to monitor the activities of supervillains and other threats.
Villains[]
Fury's priority is to stop the villains' plans. He is glad once they are captured, as their threat is gone.
Monogram[]
Fury seems to respect Monogram, despite the major's efforts to replicate his style.
Perry[]
At first, Fury is perplexed on how a platypus can be a spy, but eventually recognizes the platypus' capability of espionage.
Background Information[]
- Introducing Fury, Monogram pronounces S.H.I.E.L.D. as "S-H-I-E-L-D", thinking that the agency's name is not an acronym.
- When Fury wonders if Perry has powers, he asks if he possesses super-platypus abilities or a platypus exoskeleton, alluding to Spider-Man and Iron Man, respectively.
- According to Carl, Monogram puts on an eyepatch because it makes him look cool. This is a reference to the belief that the eye wear makes a character appear to be tougher, which was popularized by Nick Fury among other characters.
- Commenting on Nick Fury's beard, Monogram calls it a face mullet due to the similarities to the hairstyle.
- Nick Fury is voiced by Chi McBride, reprising his role from Avengers Assemble and other media. McBride's guest appearance was revealed by Jeff "Swampy" Marsh on Twitter on June 26, 2013.[1]
