"Due to the moon's low gravity, the moon jumping cows' milk produced the best tasting ice cream ever!" — Phineas[src] |
The Moon Farm is a cow ranch established on the moon by the gang in order to prove if lunar ice cream is actually good.
History[]
A rocket emerges behind Candace as she is heading inside to cook something for Jeremy. Unamused, she is greeted by Phineas, who declares his idea to go to the moon. Motivated by a long-lost verse of "The Cat and the Fiddle", the boys plan to test if cows do produce tasty ice cream when cultivated in the moon. Ferb calls the cattle herd via a Cow Cup, quickly getting them and the gang inside the ship. Appropriating Candace's countdown, the kids launch into space.
The gang soon arrives on the moon, floating off the rocket to play with low gravity. Later, they finish setting up the farm site for the cows, wherein the grass grows rapidly. Lunchtime is announced for the cattle herd, which comes out of the ship to eat the pasture. Afterwards, the kids begin to milk the animals, acquiring the necessary ingredient for the ice creams. Taste-testing it leads everyone into a state of flavor bliss. Ultimately, Phineas and Ferb bring some to their sister, substituting her failed recipe, while the cows accidentally send themselves back into space ("Moon Farm").
Design[]
The Moon Farm is a ranch consisting of an inflatable red barn with a brown roof, a wood country house with a dark brown roof, brown fence structures, a grey satellite tower, and a grey pump with several tubes.
Mechanics[]
The Moon Farm has a system based on the moon's frozen water. The seeds planted are exposed to the underground ice, which is melted with spread out pocket warmers. The grass then produces its own oxygen through photosynthesis, forming a suitable environment for cattle development. Amidst the consumption, the cows are milked via tubes connecting to their space suit and a nearby pump, where the liquid is processed and mixed with different flavors. The ice cream can be collected by activating the exhaust valve.
Background Information[]
- When learning of her brothers' plan to go to the moon, Candace gets confused since they had already gone to Mars, a further away place. This is an allusion to one of their past adventures.
- According to Phineas, he and Ferb encountered the lost verse to "The Cat and the Fiddle" in the Dead Sea. It had been presumably buried there due to the last part not rhyming.
- The kids are able to bounce whilst on the moon due to its low gravity, which lowers a person's weight. Despite this, Buford stays the same when he gets off, prompting a comment by Baljeet.
- The view of Earth as observed from the farm seems to be the iconic image taken by the Apollo 17 crew in 1972 on their way to the final lunar mission.
- Phineas states that they had formulated the farm around the discovery of frozen water on the surface, referring to the experiment conducted by the Clementine spacecraft in 1994.
- Baljeet points out the fact that there is no oxygen in the moon, preventing any grass from growing. In response, Phineas explains that the plants can produce their own via the photosynthesis process. Baljeet then questions how the water can be absorbed without proper soil, only for the grass to grow rapidly before his eyes regardless.
- While milking a cow, Buford tries to get it to say "moon", but the animal just moos.
- Based on the colors, the flavors of ice cream chosen are:
- Phineas: Chocolate
- Ferb: Vanilla
- Isabella: Raspberry
- Baljeet: Strawberry
- Buford: Grape
- Other available flavors, as seen in the song, appear to be dark chocolate, cherry, mint, and orange. Rocky road had been planned as one, but the marshmallows were forgotten, supposedly by Baljeet.
- Following the cows' accidental departure to the moon, Phineas wonders about their fate. Ferb reminds his brother of the oxygen production, stating that an atmosphere would eventually be formed. Because of this, they technically have a permanent ice cream factory.
