"Grandpa Fletcher, let's have a Medieval Tournament just like the knights did in the days of yore. We can have jousting, and catapults, and not bathe." — Phineas[src] |
The Medieval Tournament is a jousting match organized by Phineas and Ferb as a tribute to the practices of knights in medieval times.
History[]
Lawrence drops off his children at his parents' homestead in a trip to England. Looking at the surroundings, Phineas and Ferb wonder the purpose of the next door castle, to which Grandpa Reginald responds by relating the presence of royal neighbors, in a location reported to have been the Black Knight's refuge. Intrigued, the boys press their grandfather for details, gleaning the immortalized tale of a valiant chevalier, which influences them to hold their own customary sparring fixture.
Soon afterwards, Phineas and Ferb conduct the preparations for the event, catching Candace's attention. She instructs them to keep it down so as to avoid bothering a close by cute boy, who appears behind her in a curious disposition. Learning of the boys' plans, the noble enthusiastically agrees to join, consenting the usage of his family's palace, and suggesting their sister to interpret the damsel in distress. While she practices the role posthaste, the brothers ready their armor alongside her person of interest.
Wishing to converse with the regal boy, Candace tries to exit the castle, flukily locking herself alongside an armor pointy enough to break the door. In doing so, the teenager falls into the item, changing her visual to that of the adversary knight. The main act is kicked off as thus, resulting in a horse running off carrying a bucked girl, right before the actual opponent's arrival. Disregarding the odd happening, Phineas and Ferb perform a round like intended, concluding the bout in a crash draw for the ages ("A Hard Day's Knight").
Design[]
The Medieval Tournament is a sporting clash hosted in a beige passageway with a red-yellow striped central tile, delimiting hay stacks dispersed haphazardly in the sidewalks, a bordering grassy terrain, and a gray castle backdrop. Beside the field, there is a light yellow-red patterned five-row covered bleacher enclosed by four light brown cross posts displaying shield flags; and two yellow tents with light yellow-red roofs and an orange flag on top.
Attires for the combatants are sets of plate coatings representing their character; the hero has a gray coating with dark gray joints, an opening helmet, and red bulky hair, and the rebel has a black coating with a horizontal eye gap and black girthy hair. The former's steed wears a red frontal fabric and purple-white checkered cloth and headgear, while the latter's stallion dons a blue frontal fabric and red-orange striped cloth and headgear.
Activities[]
The Medieval Tournament is a medieval game involving a head-to-head conflict between two knight parties mounting horses. Lifting purple white-spiraled lances, the combatants aim to disarm the opponent in order to unbalance them, since the one left standing is declared the victor. The tourney is officiated by a pretend-king grandpa, who mandates over the three trumpeters responsible for the fanfare.
Background Information[]
- According to Phineas, the best parts of the medieval customs are the jousting, the catapults, and the freedom to not bathe. Apart from the latter, the other two propositions are incorporated into the boys' event.
- During the prep work, Phineas dresses as a jester and Ferb embellishes a rogue lumberjack to comply with the theme. The fool outfit is poked fun at by the wearer when receiving materials, for which he refers to his looks in complaints.
- The deliveries, consisting of logs and sucking pigs, are realized by the distributors Knight's Depot and Ye Olde Medieval Shoppe.
- When he is greeted by Candace, Phineas puts one of the horses together while wearing an elf suit. Shortly thereafter, he and Ferb experiment being jugglers of pink balls, in blue-yellow-green clothes.
- Taking the noble's suggestion, the boys divide a single armor, with Phineas in the top half because he is more talkative, and Ferb in the bottom half due to his long legs.
- Grandma Winifred spectates the entire match whilst sipping a cup of tea, sitting in the bleacher next to a plethora of medieval-dressed people.
- Candace quickly loses control of her horse, and is rebounded twice, thanks to it and the catapult, towards the castle before being carried away.
- Once the regal boy shows up, his regular gray armor, blue-white coated horse, and blue-white lance strikes everyone as weird considering the recent round. Reginald attributes the entity as being the spirit of the Black Knight.
- Phineas and Ferb tie the actual match owing to them putting on their coating sideways, impairing their ability to battle.
- In the end, Candace's horse hits a self-destructing fallen dragon robot, launching her one more time into the castle, from where she lands in the noble boy's embrace.
- The Medieval Tournament is seen in the montage of clips used by Buford in his video dedicated to Phineas ("Phineas' Birthday Clip-O-Rama!").
