Hoverboard World Tour, originally titled Hoverboard Tour, is a sports game based on Phineas and Ferb, released in April 2009 in the Disney XD website. In it, players navigate as one of Phineas, Ferb, or Isabella through courses based on worldwide places using a hoverboard whilst pulling off all sorts of crazy stunts.

Plot[]

In a typical summer day, Phineas and Ferb are indecisive on a grand idea to execute. Lawrence comes to the backyard with his old air hockey table that had been in the garage, offering it to the boys before the launch of their family vacation. Inspired, the duo settles on constructing a versatile hoverboard aptly designated Board 3000, piquing the interest of the arriving Isabella, who swiftly joins them in the skating plans across the globe.

Gameplay[]

The player can pick Phineas, Ferb, or Isabella to ride over the tour areas using the arrow keys to move and spacebar to jump. Two play modes are available, with Normal encompassing the system of collecting tokens to perform tricks, while Advanced requires keyboard combinations to achieve those. Tasks listed in the overview screen of each location have to be done in the five minutes alloted so as to progress into the next level. Besides these, there are hidden letters scattered throughout the stages, spelling names related to the series.

Passing a succint tutorial, the player unlocks the first real level, from which onwards every time a mission is finalized, a section of the overarching area opens up. Medals are rewarded for acquiring coins amidst the fun, allowing the hoverboard to be upgraded four times for better capabilities of freestyle jumping, accomplishing tricks, and boosted speed, therefore gradually facilitating success in the courses. Once all objectives are fulfilled, one is able to use the remaining time to enhance the score or click the world map to continue on.

Acrobacies are divided in four types depending on where they are carried out; flips work on the ground, lips stir from a lip, airs propel in the air, and slides grind in rails, all rooted on WASDEQ inputs. Forming a sequential combo fills the Coolometer for point multipliers up to five times, augmenters also distributed in select spots on the map. Although large chains can be reached, caution must be exerced to not fall onto the floor and have the points unaccounted by lengthening them excessively or otherwise mixing types of pavement for the actions.

Tricks[]

Note: Points listed are the base amount earned without the usage of multipliers. "P", "F", and "I" denote moves accessible by Phineas, Ferb, and Isabella, respectively. In normal mode, flips can additionally be performed upon touching yellow signs, lips can be performed upon touching purple signs, airs can be performed upon touching green signs, and slides can be performed upon touching red signs.

Background Information[]

  • According to developer Ben Luce, the game was designed on the premise of supplying serialized content to the male Disney audience. New stages were plotted in a month's time.[1]
  • Upon starting the adventure, a text box appears inquiring if the player has experienced it beforehand or not, thereby dictating the tutorial's activation.
  • Characters and modes can be switched at any moment by clicking the recycling symbol positioned on top of the destination menu.
  • Each character bears a distinct attire style; Phineas wears a green skate outfit with a yellow star pattern, Ferb dons a yellow skate outfit with a red lightning pattern, and Isabella sports a blue skate outfit with a pink flower pattern.
  • Tasks are symbolized by varied kinds of rock guitars; tricks are brown ones, tokens are gray ones, points are blue ones, and the bobbleheads are red ones.
  • All of the boards have names alluding to technology inventions. Boards 3000 and 3002 refer to the common trope of including a large number at a designation's end, while the Super Atomic Board contains a magnet pole-atom theme, the Ultra Fly 2.3 plays on usual version naming, and the Coolest Board Ever nods to the Coolest Coaster Ever.
  • Upgraders were planned to amplify the hoverboard's general attributes beyond the better models, however only the first two appear to have been implemented properly.
  • A cutscene plays prior to each stage, showcasing the automatic building of the skating field with the employment of a robotic suitcase. Afterwards, Phineas moonwalks if he is the player character, otherwise Ferb and Isabella simply walk.
  • Commencing and concluding a region, the active character energetically waves out to distant cheers, celebrating their cool endeavor.
  • Zone expansion happens thanks to squabbles between Perry and Doofenshmirtz, who are shown fighting in the different regions next to evil inventions modeled after the Melt-inator 6-5000. Once the platypus lands a hit, the doctor falls onto the activation lever, cracking a passage in separate manners conditioned to the region.
  • Upon a space's enlargement, the character respawns to the stage's starting site owing to the bigger environment.
  • Despite remaining grabbed, tokens are not summed to the overall total until every unit in a level is taken.
  • Posters and adverts for Love Händel, Brick, and Better Panda can be spotted in the background of a couple places, the latter of which in a rudimentary version. The Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated building shows up in New York, hinting to a possible placement for the city of Danville.
  • A martian is shown frozen inside an iceberg on the right side of the Patagonia area, next to ice sculptures of Phineas and Ferb.
  • Roadblocks include a green van, two Brick trucks, a large trailer truck, a broken car, an unfinished dock, a news van with a funky satellite pole, a Christmas tree, a boat under the London Bridge, a tour bus, inoperative portals, a crane, a box blocking the fan, an enormous snow sculpture, and a tall glacier.
  • On the prologue, Ferb reading the orange apple book and he and Phineas drafting a concept on a table and sheet are acts taken directly from their first day of summer.
  • Ferb's lip trick Chicka-Chew-Op and Isabella's air maneuver Guitchi Goo are both references to the song "Gitchee Gitchee Goo".
  • For the Paper Art lip trick, Isabella conjures up the Phineas triangle crochet she tailors during the brainstorming of the boys' fashion line.
  • Unlike the other locations, Patagonia is not in fact a city, but rather a geographical region of Argentina and Chile. Judging by the flag present, the part traveled to seems to be the Argentinian side.
  • San Francisco is unique in that it is oriented from right to left, diverging from the natural left-to-right path used in the rest of the zones.
  • In the Port Elizabeth area, soccer balls are the collectible items instead of coins since it is themed around the 2010 FIFA World Cup, a sporting event that took place as the game was rebranded.
  • Patagonia is intended to be the final level of the game unlocked after beating Port Elizabeth, but a coding bug resulted in it becoming open at the beginning.
  • There are five medal ranks based on the final score achieved in each location, those being Bronze Perry, Silver Isabella, Gold Ferb, Platinum Phineas, and Shining Star, from least to most points necessary.
  • The game went through several updates, those being:
    • June 15, 2010: Port Elizabeth level was added
    • June 16, 2010: Game was renamed "Hoverboard World Tour"
    • August 24, 2010: London level was added
    • November 16, 2010: Beijing level was added
    • August 17, 2011: Patagonia level was added
  • This was one of two Phineas and Ferb attractions selected for the Kick Around the World event, the other being Escape from Mole-tropolis.
  • A glitch occurs if the character touches a specific segment of the ground in the London level, causing them to lose control, except for tricks. However, it still scores as if they are on the floor or on a grind platform. Accelerating and jumping towards this space permits the player to clip through some ramps into the air before returning to regular boundaries.
