"Okay, troops. We set sail from Point Plots, sail through the Stones of Gall, and into the Cove of Incontinence, and then continue on foot into the Dark Tunnel of Doom. [...] And "X" marks the spot. Easy-peasy. First thing we gotta do is, we make Grandpa's secondhand dinghy into a first-rate pirate ship." — Phineas[src] |
Grandpa's Dinghy is a dinghy repurposed by Phineas and Ferb as a grand pirate ship for a buccaneer outing in search of fabled valuables.
History[]
Phineas, Ferb, and their friends rise up to the sound of Grandpa Clyde's bugle at the campground. Near the campfire, the kids finish their breakfast lead-up for a nature walk across Badbeard Lake, a body of water named after the tenacious Badbeard, a traveler known for his hidden treasure beneath the central island. Portraying a pirate, the jovial grandfather lets the young adventurers accompany him in an excursion around the legendary land, during which they get into the wild spirit.
In the shore, Phineas is motivated to set off on a bounty hunt like the classic navigators, refreshing his grandfather's memories of similar escapades. A rare map is handed by the senior as a guide, with the destination warned to carry a horrible curse of permanent ugly beards. Parting ways at that note, the gang gets on to define the best trajectory onto the isle, irregardless of possible danger. Once set on a path, Ferb showcases his magnanimous schematic concerning the convertion of the meager boat into a full-fledged ship.
Now porting a big vessel, the group chants a sea shanty chronicling their hopes for the journey at hand. They soon arrive on the entry point of the obscure cove, advancing inside the tunnel using the chart, which unluckily flies into the abyss. Marching forward, the troop is flung by a frail bridge to a monster's back, prompting them to dash past hazardous terrain in seeking a safe spot. Locating the X door, they grab the collection of fake facial hair, escaping a crumbling mount back to the trusty sailer for the mainland ("The Ballad of Badbeard").
Design[]
Grandpa's Dinghy is a small boat crafted out of light brown wood, with brown markings, a blue nameplate, a gray hook hanger, a beige pail, and a dark yellow rope. Its enhanced version is composed of a dark brown body, eleven portholes, an imprinted anchor symbol, a brown wooden floor, a beige poop deck, light brown walls, a gold skull ornament, light blue lamps, gray bells, border nets, gray rope anchors, three vertical sail masts, one inclined sail post, ten white sails, a red rear flag, two red upper flags, a crow's nest, and a black skull flag atop.
Activities[]
Grandpa's Dinghy is a pirate ship utilized to sail the freshwater stretch, adhering to the adventurous motif. Appropriately clothed for the occasion, the crew's primary members are Captain Phineas donning a blue suit, orange pants, black boots, and a black tricorne; Quartermaster Ferb wearing a red suit, green pants, black boots, and a green bandana; and Navigator Isabella dressing in a gray suit, white pants, brown boots, and a red tricorne.
The secondary comrades are Carpenter Baljeet sporting a blue-white striped shirt, gray pants, black boots, a red-white striped cap, and a gold earring; Boatswain Buford having a red-black striped shirt, blue pants, a brown boot, a tan pegleg, and a red-blue striped bandana; and Seawomen Scouts displaying a mixture of uniforms.
Background Information[]
- Strangely, the dinghy is actually named "Grandpa's Dinghy", as encrusted in the nameplate.
- For his pirate act, Grandpa Clyde paints his left spectacles lense with a black marker to simulate an eyepatch, and speaks in the popular swashbuckler dialect.
- While their friends lie on the boat, Baljeet and Buford play wood swordfighting, during which the latter calls the former a "scurvy dog". This is an allusion to the vitamin C defficiency, the main cause of deaths in early maritime expeditions due to frequent poor diet choices on board.
- According to Grandpa Clyde, he acquired the treasure map in one of his many childhood summer excursions of the island.
- The pathway delineated for the ship has Point Plots as the starting point, the Stones of Gall and the Cove of Incontinence for intersections, and the Dark Tunnel of Doom objective. Each location's name is a play on a concept; the first is a rearranging of the phrase "plot points", the middle places are a nod to calculus complications, and the last is a generic title for a fatal setting.
- Ferb's blueprint for the vessel improvement details its principal compartments and size, in a paper twice his height.
- An interior room with gray walls is seen to exist within the boat, albeit likely serving decorative purposes.
- Aside from the watercraft's tools, Phineas, Ferb, and Buford carry swords strapped in to their waists.
- More precisely, the attires worn by the Fireside Girls are:
- Gretchen: Gray-white suit, blue pants, brown shoes, and a black tricorne.
- Adyson: Red shirt, a tan coat, black pants, brown shoes, and a green-tan bandana.
- Milly: Blue-white suit, a gray dress, dark gray boots, black-white tricorne, and a green bandana.
- Ginger: White shirt, a brown jacket, black pants, black shoes, and a caramel tricorne.
- Holly: Blue-white shirt, a blue bandana, and a gold earring.
- Katie is the only regular scout not shown to be a part of the ship crew.
- To access and exit the isle's interior, the kids dock a replica of the dinghy on the close by water.
- In the end, Candace and Perry are brought over to the returning boat by a friendly eagle.
- Grandpa's Dinghy was an item in the beach map of the Summer Vacation Summerizer.
