"An old-fashioned tire swing, but huge and powered by jet-engines that can flatten a small village." — Phineas[src] |
The Giant Tire Swing is a tire swing built by Phineas and Ferb in order to experience the feeling of a traditional summer activity.
History[]
Phineas tells the gang to come up with ideas for projects, since his original plan has become unfeasible. Reacting to his friends' propositions to improve some of their past inventions, he incites them to instead conceive an innovative item, complying with the summer spirit. Seeing Buford hanging on a tire for the short musical demonstration, the boys are motivated to construct a magnified model of a classic swing.
The project is quickly put in motion, with everyone helping in an aspect of the product. Though not free of tangential disturbances, the invention is soon complete. As the kids station themselves inside, the brothers present the finished creation, launching it off to begin the ride. Some time later, the test drive is successfully concluded, to everyone's approval. A problem caused by Buford has to be resolved thereafter, leading him to lift it away into another person's scheme ("Fly On the Wall").
Design[]
The Giant Tire Swing is a giant tire with a dark gray outline, a light gray interior, gray middle aileron pieces, a light blue bottom plate, and two gray side jet engines. It is sustained by a thin cord connected to a light gray post.
Mechanics[]
The Giant Tire Swing is a swing enhanced by rocket boosters. Oriented accordingly, the cabin is correctly adjusted to the ride's properties, allowing the smooth transitory movement. There is a second mode to it, which can be activated by pressing a red button to enable old-fashioned one-person radical swings.
Background Information[]
- Phineas' initial idea for the day had been to build a zombie-robot pool table, but the parts for it do not arrive.
- At Phineas' request, Buford suggests a super duper rollercoaster, adding only a prefix, and Isabella proposes a Portal to Venus à la the Mars adventure. To the latter, Baljeet points out that a sunscreen of 12 million protection factor would have to be concocted.
- Stimulating the others' thought processes, the boys try to remind them of the essence of summer, prompting a quick performance of a particular song. The oddity of them remembering a sequence that they shouldn't causes an awkward pause.
- According to Phineas, the engines inserted into the tire swing are potent enough to flatten a small village.
- When the boys introduce the tire swing to the kids, Phineas greets them with "lady and gentlemen", a variation of the traditional "ladies and gentlemen" employed in this case due to there being only one female associated with the project.
- Two comments are made regarding the ride's modules; Baljeet states that the regular one feels like watching a movie, and Buford remarks on how he had never felt as stomach sick before the singular one.
- Before finding a transformed Candace, the group had planned to restock the snack bar to then go back for more swings.
- In the end, Buford presses the "FLY" button in the control panel, which blasts the invention alongside the pedestal into space, where the two parts break apart. The post is seen by astronauts, who realize that the Space Shuttle program had already ended.
- As claimed by the individual thwarted by the tire swing, his Uncle Boris had a saying that went, "when life's goin' well, a giant tire comes along and smashes your inator", accurately fitting the situation.
- The Giant Tire Swing appears in one of the scenes of the montage recounting the summer ("Last Day of Summer").
