"I guess we could send out invitations, but that's the good thing about a Giant Jukebox: You build it, the party comes to you." — Phineas[src] |
The Giant Jukebox is a jukebox constructed by Phineas and Ferb as the premier musical attraction for a jumbo extravaganza.
History[]
Lawrence is walking Phineas and Ferb through the marvels of mid-20th century technology, placing a coin inside a quaint music box in the kitchen to select one of the discs containing 1960s tunes. Realizing its preservation value, the father takes it to his antique store, leaving the boys to ponder about the potential of an augmented variety to classic song players. Set on a project, the duo sorts out blueprints and party plans to incorporate in their grand groovy scheme.
As they are preparing to start, an off-beat Candace happily greets them, expressing her enthrallment to participate in the construction. Her overtly naive demeanor perturbs Phineas and Ferb's incoming friends, though it does not stop them from collaborating in the cause. Initiating the assembly, the upright teenager proves to be rather incompetent in handywork, annoying a focused Baljeet, who directs her to the boys for further instructions and the stock of necessary materials.
Some time later, the invention is complete, being filled with a mix of popular bands in conformity with the setup. One of these is led by Jeremy, grabbing the adolescent impostor's curiosity. Phoning her lookalike to ask about him, she unwittingly causes her life-switching deal to break off, with the real Candace rushing into the house to drag Linda in a busting fit. Ultimately, the kids' creation is lifted by a blimp, falling onto the inaugurated opera house punctually for the celebration ("Make Play").
Design[]
The Giant Jukebox is an enormous music box with a brown frame, two vase-shaped cuts in the sides, a bronze trim top design, a horizontal middle silver retainer, two bottom brown pillars, two bubbler tubes in blue-orange and yellow-green hues, two arc tubes in red-orange-yellow-green-cyan and yellow-orange-red patterns, a "u" tube in a rainbow hue, a bronze light diffuser, and a metal gate center. Its interior consists of a yellow orange-patterned flower walls, a circular multi-disc lineup, and a purple-magenta floor.
Mechanics[]
The Giant Jukebox operates akin to a regular jukebox; inserting a quarter into the slot allows the user to select one of nine available bands in a panel. Musical groups enter the structure through the ladder accessible in the right pillar, climbing it all the way to a specified disc at the top. Once the choice is made, the designated party is brought to the central turning table by a mechanical claw, cueing them to start the live show, for which the outputted sound is greatly amplified in a borough-wide radius.
Background Information[]
- Lawrence details his music box demonstration as a common situation in 1957, corresponding with the period of the jukebox's peak popularity.
- Phineas and Ferb originally plan to distribute invitations for the musical celebration, but backtrack on that to have the machine bring the populace to them.
- Isabella's curiosity inquiry is answered by the ingenuous Candace in joy, which ends up weirding everyone out.
- Buford is so disturbed by the odd behavior of the Candace lookalike that he resolves to leave the backyard on the spot.
- During the building work, the impostor Candace asks for a hammer, to which Baljeet snarkily replies that her legs are not broken, indirectly stating her ability to get the object herself.
- Noticing their purported sister's excitement, Phineas comments on the unexpected change of pace, while Ferb points out her upper-class Drusselsteinian accent. They decide to ignore the discrepancies, and just go with the flow.
- Two of the bands included in the jukebox are Love Händel and Jeremy and the Incidentals, both seen passing by the kids into the invention.
- Dropping the giant device, the blimp's owner believes he has succeeded with his disruption scheme in a separate way, only to be foiled by an impromptu turnaround.
- Upon seeing the music box at the opera house, the princess doppelgänger of Candace declares to the citizens that the festivity will be a dance party in lieu of a boring speech.
- In the end, the boys encounter Perry in the backyard, leading them to wonder where exactly their creation had gone to.
