"The first one to complete 50 laps around the Sun wins the Galaxy 5000!" — Phineas[src] |
The Galaxy 5000 is a racing competition held by Phineas and Ferb at a Solar System model for some planetary fun with their friends.
History[]
Phineas and Ferb are having a staring contest, in which the latter loses due to eye shifts. Arriving in the backyard, Baljeet reminds them of the technicality that all of them rotate with the Earth. Alongside him, Buford keeps spinning the planets on Baljeet's hat to race them in the mini orbit, giving the boys the idea of doing the same in a larger scale. Later, the Solar System Speedway is finished, in time for Isabella to join.
Phineas, Ferb, and Isabella head up the structure to enter their chosen planets. With everyone inside, Irving, acting as the commentator, proceeds to check the competitors' status, finding them to be ready. He signals for the racers to rev up the engines, kicking off the competition when the Sun turns green. As the race begins, havoc quickly ensues in the field, with the top positions being heavily interchanged in mere moments.
Down the line, the trio of Phineas, Ferb, and Isabella steps up to the plate, catching up to the lead whilst doing some cool tricks along the way. Some time after, Candace, who had been multitasking gaming and chores, notices the galactic track, urging her to attempt busting her brothers. Near the finish line, Buford and Baljeet bicker for first place, ending with the latter winning the competition. Unexpectedly, an affected trucker comes up to buy the speedway, taking it before Linda can see it ("The Inator Method").
Design[]
The Galaxy 5000 is a race held in the Solar System Speedway, a track modeled after the local star system. Sustained by a tall grey beam, the course has the Sun as its central point, with the planets, linked through cords, circumventing it on their orbital paths, albeit having more movement freedom than the regular celestial bodies, allowing the competitors to perform diverse tricks against one another. The inside of the speedway contains the announcer room, and pods connected to the rides, each of which comprised of a light blue seat, a black steering wheel, and control panels.
Activities[]
The Galaxy 5000 is a 50-lap competition themed around the planets, which are simplistic versions of the real bodies. Featuring a digital trophy as its prize, the contest has each racer don a unique-colored astronaut helmet; details are listed below.
Racer | Color | Planet |
---|---|---|
Phineas | Orange | Mars |
Ferb | Purple | Mercury |
Isabella | Pink | Venus |
Baljeet | Blue | Saturn |
Buford | Red | Uranus |
Django | Light orange | Saturn |
Jenny | Magenta | Earth |
Balthazar | Green | Neptune |
Albert | None* | Pluto |
Background Information[]
- Despite the competition's name, its setting is a star system, a component of a galaxy.
- According to Phineas, the race is supposed to be titled "Galaxy 50" in conformity with the number of laps, but he names it "Galaxy 5000" because it sounds cooler.
- The planet Venus is specifically saved by Phineas for Isabella. She believes it to be due to the body sharing its name with the goddess of love, though he confesses to not having thought of that.
- During the status check, Buford pronounces Uranus as "Oo-rah-ohs", prompting a reply by Baljeet on the incorrectness of it. In response, the former states that it is how the word has to be said in the channel, referring to the real-life network's policy of not having certain words uttered in kids' shows, which required the writers to avoid the common misinterpretation of the planet's name.
- Upon seeing his brother Albert riding Pluto, Irving comments on the fact that it is not considered a planet, alluding to the 2006 redefinition of celestial bodies. Subsequently, Albert points out the astronomical controversy of the referendum.
- The race's start is denoted by the Sun going from red to green, a nod to traffic lights, which follow the same pattern in most places around the world.
- In his early commentary, Irving announces that the Fireside Girls have the lead, even though they are not partaking in the activity.
- When Isabella overtakes Phineas and Ferb, the latter remarks that she had gone "intra-Venus" between them, a play on the term "intravenous".
- Baljeet mentions the rings of Saturn, and Neptune's classification as an ice giant while confronting Buford.
- The Solar System Speedway is sold by five dollars at Buford's suggestion of a price. Eyeing the money, Baljeet proposes to put it in the bank, but Buford dismisses the idea based on the prospect of a low interest rate.
