"An exact replica of Grandpa's old biplane! Dad's gonna love this!" — Phineas[src] |
The Fletcher Family Flying Circus is a biplane built by Phineas and Ferb to fulfill their father's desire of a flying jaunt with Reg.
History[]
Phineas and Ferb prepare breakfast for Lawrence as a Father's Day gesture. On their way to their father's room, the boys hear him playing a flight simulator with Grandpa Reg, giving them the perfect idea for a gift. Surprising their parent, the brothers hand him the pancakes, and soon afterwards set out to construct the real present. Some time later, with the plane now finished, Phineas and Ferb do a successful test run in it.
Once they land, Phineas rushes to get Lawrence, who is instructed to keep his eyes closed as to not ruin the revelation. Reaching the backyard, the boys' father is allowed to see the replica of their grandfather's biplane, positively shocking him. Unexpectedly, Grandpa Reg pops up from inside the vehicle, astonishing his son. The British duo then decides to have their traditional flight, inviting the kids to officially become part of the tradition.
The family flies over and into diverse places in their aerial course, whilst expressing their joy through a musical number. Satisfied for reminiscing past memories and forming new ones, Lawrence thanks his children for enabling the experience. Wary of the time, Grandpa Reg asks to borrow the aircraft so he can go back home, a deal that his son happily agrees to. Right after the farewell, Candace and Linda come home carrying a miniature replica of the biplane, unaware of the day's exploits ("Father's Day").
Design[]
The Fletcher Family Flying Circus is a blue aircraft with a flame-shaped orange marking in the front, red lateral tails, a Union Jack-imprinted upper tail, red ailerons linked by yellow struts; two head black wheels connected by thin yellow struts; one back black wheel connected by a wide yellow strut; a gray engine, a gray propeller, and a gold logo featuring Lawrence and Reginald's heads.
Mechanics[]
The Fletcher Family Flying Circus is a biplane capable of performing multiple maneuvers, such as aerial loops, barrel rolls, Immelmann turns, English bunts, Cuban eights, and inverted spins. In addition to its flexibility, the aircraft is coupled with a quadruple remote-controlled rocket boost in the wings, allowing a heightened velocity.
Background Information[]
- The Fletcher Family Flying Circus' name likely stems from Monty Python's Flying Circus.
- For the flights, the pilot and passengers equip an aviator hat and goggles.
- Showcasing the biplane, Ferb says "ta-da!", an interjection commonly used to represent a fanfare.
- Phineas presents Grandpa Reg as a hidden feature of their replica. Despite him not stating how they got their grandfather in it, it is likely that the boys had picked him up during the test run.
- Amidst the Fletcher trip, Phineas, Ferb, and Reg do the Charleston while strapped atop an aileron. This is a dance popularized by the song "The Charleston" in the 1920s.
- In the course of the flight, they pass by an empty field, hot-air balloons, a barnyard, the park, a circus, a zoo, and a lake.
- The scene in which the biplane leaves a man without his suit is a homage to the film North by Northwest.
- The main reason for Lawrence's agreement of Reginald's proposal to keep the plane is that the Flynn-Fletcher garage is full, as stated by the former.
- When Linda arrives home, she wonders about her husband's day, misinterpreting his comment on it as meaning that he had played the simulator all day, to his flustering.
- The Fletcher Family Flying Circus appears in one of the scenes of the montage recounting the summer ("Last Day of Summer").
