"It's true. We were up there! Ferb did the whole "one giant step" thing. Check out this Moon stuff we brought back!" — Phineas[src] |
The Escalator to the Moon is a lunar lift built by Phineas and Ferb so that they can visit Earth's natural satellite à la astronauts.
History[]
The Flynn-Fletcher family is having dinner in the kitchen during a peaceful evening. Keen on convincing her parents of the boys' antics, Candace broaches the space elevator constructed earlier in the day inside the backyard, an invention completely missed by Linda. Hoping to prove their feat, Phineas and Ferb showcase a bundle of lunar artefacts gathered in the excursion, though the items are dismissed by Lawrence as appealing pieces of arts and crafts, much to the teenager's ever-growing sorrow ("Traffic Cam Caper").
Design[]
The Escalator to the Moon is a vertical transport made up of a white cylindrical tower, three white triangle pedestals, three gray circular bases, and a gray curved door. Its interior is a hollow expanse containing a gray circular podium with a black middle part.
Mechanics[]
The Escalator to the Moon is a soaring elevator erected to the Moon. Passengers access it through the front gate, directly stepping on the high-speed plate responsible for the cosmic voyage. On top of the structure is a platform, jumping from which lands the user in lunar soil.
Background Information[]
- The lunar escalator is also referred to as an Elevator to the Moon, or simply a Moon elevator.
- Given that it stretches out to the Moon, the lift must have a height equal to the distance between the Earth and the orbiting body, a total of 238,855 mi (384,400 km).
- Phineas recalls the moment that he reached the natural satellite, when Ferb acted out the magnanimous stepping forward bit, alluding to the phrase uttered by Neil Armstrong upon landing there, "that's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind."
- Memorabilia brought over by the boys from the Moon are six fragments of lunar rocks and one of the United States flags planted on the surface by the Apollo program crew.
- Grasping her daughter's desolate state, Linda suggests relishing in the kids' imaginative plans to Candace for an easing change.
- Taking their leave to go to sleep, Phineas and Ferb playfully remark that pushing the boundaries of the spacetime continuum is certainly tiring.
- The otherwordly elevator is reviewed by Candace and her brothers after she borrows a close by surveillance compact disc and inserts it on her personal computer.
- Building a stairway to the Moon is one of three plans laid out by Phineas and Ferb in another morning, the other two being a secret agent mission and cloning giant hamsters ("Ready for the Bettys").
- The foundational arrangement of the Escalator to the Moon is utilized in the design of the skyscraper pitstop for a futuristic car in a dream escapade ("Phineas and Ferb Get Busted!").
- The Escalator to the Moon is mentioned by Candace on her rant about her brothers' antics, an image of it appearing as she speaks of it (Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe).
