"Let me explain. You'll "accidentally" step on that platform, which will launch you up and over that flight of stairs, where you'll be kicked and rocketed through a piece of sheet-rock onto a trampoline, then conveyor-belted up to a rotating system that will drop you onto a spring, bouncing you all the way to that red X, where Buford will be standing, waiting to catch you, saving your life." — Phineas[src] |
The contraption is a chain reaction device built by Phineas and Ferb at Baljeet's request of overturning the Bully Code.
History[]
Baljeet is choosing an order at a Mr. Slushy Dawg, but is interrupted by Buford before saying it. The latter asks for a Windmill Dog, which, unbeknownst to them, can be a choking hazard. Noticing his friend in peril, Baljeet forces Buford to regurgitate the food, effectively saving a life. Grateful, the bully decides to obey the Bully Code, appointing himself as the nerd's slave. Meanwhile, Phineas and Ferb are reviewing possible projects for the day, in search of inspiration.
The master-disciple relationship begins to annoy Baljeet, as Buford continues to follow him in every step. Tired of having a servant, Baljeet runs up to Phineas and Ferb for help, inadvertently giving them an idea for an invention. Near the Slushy Dawg establishment, the boys finish setting up the machinery. Clarifying its purpose, the brothers get the nerd excited to clear his predicament.
Working at the hot dog parlour, Candace and Stacy observe the boys' device across the street. The former attempts to get her mother, who is in the drive-thru, to look for the kids, only to find a large pick-up line ahead. In the attendance meantime, Phineas changes Baljeet's mind on having a minion, though a knocked off Slushy weiner ends the compromise abruptly, with Buford saving the life this time. Ultimately, Candace goes through the ride, which is left mostly intact at the scene ("The Bully Code").
Design[]
The contraption is a machination consisting of a light gray base, a red X starting and ending point; gray stairs, a brown movable boot, a red rocket, a white piece of sheet-rock, a blue trampoline with a yellow outline; a light gray conveyor belt, a gray rotating system, and a gray spring.
Mechanics[]
The contraption functions via a chain reaction process. Once the user steps on the red X, they are launched up the flight of stairs, landing them in the boot aimed at the rocket. Afterwards, they pass through the sheet onto the trampoline, reaching the conveyor belt and rotating part, and lastly the spring, which bounces them back to the X, where the target stands.
Background Information[]
- The contraption is an example of a Rube Goldberg machine, a chain device purposefully designed in an unorthodox fashion.
- Phineas and Ferb's blueprints for possible plans feature "Peanut Butter and Jelly Races", "Masking Tape Mummy Gymnastics", and a "Jelly Bean Monetary System for Emerging Nations".
- Baljeet's sentiment in regards to the contraption is a terrified excitement, as specified by him.
- The motive for Baljeet's acceptance of the situation is that having the toughest kid in town as a bodyguard is a sign of supreme coolness. This is pointed out to him by the boys, who realize the potential of his situation after the plan is finalized.
- In the end, Buford catches a falling Candace, who denies becoming his servant. Technically, the Bully Code does not apply in this case, as she is not a nerd.
- Linda ends up seeing the contraption, chalking it up as an unintelligible piece of public art.
Appearances[]
