"Hey, Ferb, let's put on our own Cirque. This'll be great! Ferb can set up the tent, I'll be the ringmaster." — Phineas[src] |
The Big Top Cirque is a circus put on by Phineas and Ferb as an entertaining alternative to a dropped performing production.
History[]
Baljeet arrives at the Flynn-Fletcher household, excited to head out for a cirque performance alongside his friends, who are eating breakfast together. Unfortunately for the kids, Lawrence reads on the recent newspaper about the cancelation of the planned outing due to an unexpected allergic reaction of the ringmaster. In a change of schedule, the father joins his wife on her album gig, leaving the gang to devise a spectacle of their own, complete with a plethora of uniquely-crafted acts.
Getting to work, Phineas and Ferb erect a tent in the backyard as a base of operations, and prepare the crew's carnivalesque attires inside it. Buford soon comes back carrying props for his part, pitching it to the head brothers in the moment, to their compliance. Thereafter, Candace inspects the pavilion, resolving to contact her parents upon hearing animals, only to fail and retreat thanks to a pack of parnsips brought by Jeremy. Faced with a sensitivity issue, she is forced to hide herself in the meantime.
The boys commence the show without a hitch, presenting the stupefying nerd and the amazing platypus for the opening stretch. Following the swinging girls and the tangled child, the bagged bully is set to appear, with some light modifications done to his segment beforehand. Mistaking a costumed Candace for Buford, the main duo launches her, though he manages to improvise a landing. Subsequently, the grand finale gathers the ensemble in a balanced tower, finishing the act after the stage is blown away by helium ("Jerk De Soleil").
Design[]
The Big Top Cirque is staged in a big top tent with a pink-magenta striped fabric and a pyramid-shaped roof containing five white masts waving pink flags. Supported by six brown cables pinned to gray stakes, the structure has designated entryways to an interior comprised of several dark brown poles, a purple seven-row bleacher, and a central yellow ring platform. Props include white elevated loudspeakers, yellow spotlights, beige pulley ropes, yellow juggling balls, orange and white hoops, a unicycle, two trapezes, and a snake vase.
Costumes are a blue-red-orange attire for the ringmaster, a green-purple jester outfit for the assistant, a coconut ballerina dress for the platypus, a yellow-purple-blue palm elf-clown suit for the nerd, a gray jogging paper bag garb for the bully, orange and red overalls for the knot kid, and blue one-piece acrobat uniforms for the girls. Presentation items are a microphone, a blue trampoline, a star ladder stand, a teal vertical hoop, a pink-blue-green pool, a star wheelbarrow, a daredevil catapult, a statue mudpot, and a plastic crescent Moon.
Activities[]
The Big Top Cirque is a performance event featuring six different acts. Firstly, Baljeet the Stupefying does his detachable thumb magic, followed by the Amazing Semiaquatic Perry in a hoop-jumping trick onto the Shallow Pool. Next, the Twirling Girls dance using many hoops, succeeded by the twisting marvel Django the Human Pretzel. Concluding the single showings is the Amazing Baggo self-hurling into the Aztec Mud of Doom, leading to the Human Pyramid grand finale starring the whole crew.
Background Information[]
- Cirque du Lune, the canceled circus, is a parody of the real-life traveling circus Cirque du Soleil. While the latter's name means "Circus of the Sun" in French, the former translates to "Circus of the Moon".
- On top of the principal course, the cirque has particular visual effects, fitting musical accompaniments provided by Ferb, costumes sewn by the Fireside Girls, four jugglers, and guest participations of a few neighborhood kids.
- Ferb uses a lever to activate and remove the bleacher, as observed in the beginning and the end.
- Perry's outfit is a subject of mockery by his boss, who unintentionally hurts the agent's feelings in a laughing fit.
- Buford originally proposes a simple catapult scheme in his section, which is adjusted by the boys in torque and angle so as to obtain more extreme results.
- An elephant sound is heard from within the tent, inciting Candace to call her mother. This is a reference to circus animals, popular acts normally involving big wild animals appearing to be tamed.
- When Candace finds herself stuck in her allergic dilemma, she views a school acquaintance wanting to sit beside Jeremy. He actually saves a seat for Candace, but she is roped in her siblings' antics before reaching it.
- To enhance his act, Baljeet chants the verse "feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, come thumb, it's healing time".
- For Perry's part, Ferb ricochets his pet in a stationed trampoline, easily making the jump.
- In the Fireside Girls' performance, there is one extra girl inserted to fill two pyramids.
- Django's contortion segment is specifically based on his ability to put his leg above his head, a technique still rusty in that it winds up with him being slightly hurt.
- Candace is mistaken by Buford because she wears a similar costume to Buford's in order to conceal her image, and she enters the circus below a spotlight. Since she is lighter than him, she is shot directly through the ceiling, completely missing the intended trajectory.
- As the Human Pyramid is revealed, Phineas and Ferb are seen in four different places, at one point showing up twice in the same time.
- The Moon atop the person tower, where Perry falls into, is a homage to the failed Cirque du Lune, which is presumably themed after the natural satellite.
- The Big Top Cirque is remembered by Candace during her relating of Phineas and Ferb's antics to Linda, in which it is exemplified with a purple-cyan-white clown suit ("Rollercoaster: The Musical!").
- The carnival map of the Summer Vacation Summerizer is primarily themed around the Big Top Cirque, with Phineas, Ferb, Isabella, Baljeet, Perry, and the Fireside Girls appearing in their circus attires.
