"To do today: Big Ben race to Thames at 1600 for water slide fun." — Note on the event's details[src] |
The Big Ben Water Slide is a water slide course built by Phineas and Ferb around the clock tower's setting.
History[]
Phineas and Ferb go on a trip to England with their family to visit their grandparents. One morning, Lawrence takes the boys to the London Eye ferris wheel, but the two decide to skip it for a plan of their own. Curious, Candace sets out to investigate her siblings' activities in order to find out what they are scheming, applying her newly-acquired detective skills.
A Sherlock Holmes-style inspection of Phineas and Ferb's whereabouts leads Candace and Stacy to the Big Ben, wherein they stumble upon a water slide construction authored by the boys. Candace questions Phineas about it, only to end up riding the slide, hindering her ability of calling her mom. Stacy and Phineas join in on the fun, landing in different cars of the London Eye.
As a last-ditch effort, Candace attempts to get her mother's attention from afar. Oblivious to her surroundings, she fails to notice the Big Ben being elevated by an external force; the responsible for which becomes the last rider of the water slide, which breaks under height pressure before the adults can see it ("Elementary My Dear Stacy").
Design[]
The Big Ben Water Slide is a slide structure that surrounds the clock tower. A grey claw elevator connects the floor area to the top of the tower, the clock on which is used as the starting point. From there, five-layer yellow slides extend to near the River Thames. The 32-seat white London Eye ferris wheel is appropriated as a landing spot, completing the course.
Mechanics[]
Passengers of the Big Ben Water Slide get on it by wearing a tire on the waist, permitting the claw to grab and take them up the tower. At the top, they can apply any products on themselves to serve as boosts, and switch to any desired position. Once ready, they can go down on the slides. The objective is to hit the river at the bottom with as much speed as possible, to then land in a ferris wheel car.
Background Information[]
- For the construction of the water slide, Phineas and Ferb search for parts in an Auto Spares shop, carry crates with butter and other materials, and move pipes. Additionally, they get a pineapple and exchange a note about the time and place of their event.
- Candace's initial hypotheses for her brothers' project of the day are a fleet of vehicles and an oil-based giant robot, both under assumptions of them obtaining certain parts from the auto store.
- In the most views of the water slide, it is shown with five layers. When Candace and Stacy look at it from the ferris wheel, it appears with only three.
- According to Phineas, the pineapple serves as a snack for Ferb, while the butter functions as a velocity increaser.
- The annotation containing the details of the slide's opening is accidentally torn in half before the girls get ahold of it, reading as "To Big Race 1600 Water S". This instigates Candace to wrongly assume that "1600 Water S[treet]" is supposed to be an address.
- The full text is uncovered after revealing an impression on the paper via a pencil, leaving the following: "To do today: Big Ben race to Thames [at] 1600 for water slide fun", with "1600" meaning 4 pm in the 24-hour notation.
- Linda says that she would pick the kids up at 4:15 pm. Considering the time listed on the note, it can be presumed that the slide stays open for a total of fifteen minutes. Prior to its shut down, Phineas declares himself the last customer.
- Ferb's trial on the slide earns him a speed world record. In real life, this was achieved by the Verrückt water slide, with a maximum velocity of 70 mph (110 km/h).
- Doofenshmirtz's turn on the slides leads him to do a cannonball into nearby pavement.
