"We made Candace the Best Phone Ever!" — Phineas[src] |
The Best Phone Ever is a technological cell phone invented by Phineas and Ferb as a replacement for their sister's recently-broken device.
History[]
Candace's carelessness leads her to have her fifth cell phone in four months smashed by a contractor truck. Upon seeing their distraught sister, Phineas and Ferb agree to build a replacement for her. In the garage, the boys present to their friends an advanced technological phone, including lots of cool features. To demonstrate, Phineas has Isabella go to the driveway, where he teleports to and from using one of the gadget's functions.
Candace shows up and takes the phone from them, ignoring her brothers' protests for her to watch the tutorial. Now relieved, Candace talks to Stacy, who is watching a documentary on Easter Island. This prompts Candace to wonder about the place, accidentally activating the device's transporter. At the Chilean island, she has the phone swept by a bird, causing her to chase it, and nearly fall off a cliff in the process.
A patrolling secret agent notices the girl in peril and notifies the Agency, allowing them to repass the alert to Perry. Taking action, the platypus uses his nemesis' newest invention to save Candace, landing her in the backyard. She then realizes that she has lost a phone once more, but is given a replica by the boys. Insisting on busting them, she mistakenly utters the name of a faraway place, losing herself again ("Candace Disconnected").
Design[]
The Best Phone Ever is a light blue smartphone with a rectangular screen space in the upper portion, a keyboard in the lower part, a small parabolic antenna in the top left corner, and a radio transmitter in the top right.
Mechanics[]
The Best Phone Ever has many features in addition to regular phone utilities. These include a voice-activated transporter app, a rimshot add-on, and presumably a heightened internet signal thanks to its outer receivers.
Background Information[]
- Phineas and Ferb's main Big Idea for the day is supposedly the most interesting, tallest, and heaviest invention they have ever done, though it is not shown on-screen.
- Phineas states that it took almost forty years to perfect the technology of the modern cell phone, referring to the development of mobile devices from its beginnings in the early 1970s to the advent of the smartphone in the late 2000s. Taking their skills into account, he adds that they can concoct a similar gadget in roughly thirty-eight minutes, which they do in fact accomplish.
- The teleporter app specifically takes the command "Go to {{PLACE}}" in order to be activated. This is obeyed in all three times it is used.
- While Isabella, Phineas, and Candace are gone, Buford takes the opportunity to gossip about them, an act known as "talking behind someone's back", which is reprimanded by Baljeet.
- According to Phineas, he and Ferb had conjured up an interactive tutorial to ease the phone's usage. Candace dismisses it because she, as a teenager, already knows how to use one.
- The rimshot app is used as a comedic effect for puns, approprating its famous "ba-dum ching" sound. The four occasions it is played are for the following wordplays:
- "The only thing I wanna see is you later" - "See you later"
- "Talk about a cliffhanger" - Hanging off a cliff
- "I'm gonna rock you to sleep" - "Rock-a-bye Baby"
- "Give me a break!" - Breaking a twig
- Following her return to her house, Candace is accidentally transported to Timbuktu, a city in Mali whose name is commonly used as a placeholder for a distant and remote location.
- When she is picked up by the inator, Candace is seen flying over the ocean and outside the Earth.
- The phone's teleporter function has a voice that indicates its activation and locations. Based on the additional voices listed on the credits, it is likely that it was voiced by Kelly Hu.
